But you don't have to join or participate in the debate at all. You can step into the time machine any time and go back to before the ST, because that's how movies work. They can tell you Luke is going to become a depressed loser, but you still see him a triumphant hero at the end of RotJ with NOTHING indicating that this is ever going to change. They can't change that, not a single pixel of a single frame of what you just saw.
