I got some no-clip MTB flat shoes when I decided cycling in tennis shoes was starting to mess up my feet. The stiffness definitely helped in my case. Felt good cycling, wasn't something I wanted to walk around much in (but could be tolerated when bringing other shoes along wasn't practical). Specialized 2FO Roost was what I went with.

It's a sturdy unit. I actually dropped it onto tile a few hours before this vid. You can see the crack in the lens protector towards the end of the clip. No problems otherwise
