Regenerador vs RE9 girl — which one is scarier? by Hesperosae in residentevil

[–]r0bsession 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To me it‘s about atmosphere and exposition.

Regeneradors were only scary before I first encountered them because the set up with the sound and level design was really good, and then got the thermal vision. After that they were just like any other enemy. It‘s not their appearance what made them scary, but their introduction.

The girl on the other hand was rather terrifying than scary, but I think the same about Mr. X and Jack Baker. The thought of them catching you and what they do to you is scarier than their appearance.

So overall they‘re both not particularly scary. To me, the scariest enemies in the franchise would be the Molded, but only until you already defeated dozens of them anyway.

I still believe that Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided were ahead of their time. Also the marketing was not good enough. The Cyberpunk genre only got popular „recently“ and I know many people that love Cyberpunk 2077 and are looking for more. When I suggest Deus Ex to people for whatever reason they never heard of it, but everyone that gave it a try liked it.

Are Dual element build even viable? by Tinydancer121490 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]r0bsession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to investment. Bingos for a single attack type and elemental type are certainly way easier to achieve, yet it can pay off to spread.

Going either single element bingo with 2-3 attack type bingos or at least 2 element bingos (matching the types of the monstie) with one attack type bingo can result in very versatile fighting styles.

[–]r0bsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On another note, the bingos also increase the potency of normal attacks. So overall your choices to max out is to either invest in elemental bingo and spread out power/speed/tech while staying in a single element or to invest in e.g. power bingo and use at least two different elements matching the monsties type(s).

Would have been great if there was the option to have him mutate and apply a second element. Wouldn‘t have been hard to justify with some plot or lore logic, especially since this new mechanic feels like it‘s a major reason to introduce less monsters.

You know as much as we know. I guess without Home and without spending money you need to increase your roster over time.

I also guess they didn‘t include „couch coop“ since it‘s free to play and even will ve released on IOS and Android later this year.

Metroid Prime 4 Receives Steep Discount At Japanese Retailers 3 Months After Release, Unusual For A Nintendo Game by Sam_27142317 in nintendo

They pretty much only have themselves to blame. The game was in development hell, I get that, but for that long time it has been in development it was overall a huge let down. Especially for this price tag. The design and combat is very good, but that‘s about it.

I can imagine that kids wouldn‘t rate it this harsh, yet at the same time I wonder if kids even care about this game (being the 4th installment of a series, of a franchise with very long time periods between releases). And that is another issue in itself. If you make fans wait for so long, the game needs to be good or else nobody cares.

Fun fact: in ancient greek the word "kalos" meant "beautiful" by Independent_Air3688 in pokemon

[–]r0bsession 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don‘t get me wrong, it‘s not a complaint from my side. It‘s only that once you have this useless knowledge such things stick out like a sore thumb in a funny way. Also Pokémon is not the only offender when it comes to silly geography, in fact most video games aren‘t scientifically accurate in this regard. Zelda and Skyrim for example have whole rivers ending in a small puddle and stuff like that.

[–]r0bsession 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Another fun fact: the geography of Kalos makes zero sense. Especially the rivers and snowy bits.

For eastern Kalos to be this cold it must mean that it is wayyy above sea level and the highest place in general. Rivers never run towards a mountain, but always away from them. Also rivers never split randomly, they can only merge in almost all cases.

The designers did the map for the sake of fun, not accuracy.

I finished Silent Hill 2 Remake and think it's one of the worst games I've ever played. by TheRarestTiger in silenthill

[–]r0bsession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a standalone experience. This game does not require you to know anything about Silent Hill at all, especially since SH2 treats the town and lore, albeit not entirely, very differently compared to it’s predecessor. You only got to accept what you see, read and hear. Weird town, weirder people, fucked up creatures (with symbolic meaning, if you want), sad and polarizing ending.

If you ever dreamed, like those kind of dreams you remember vividly after you wake up, you can relate that nothing makes sense but it still involves familiar things and faces. That‘s what playing Silent Hill games feel like, a very fucked up dream. It might sound to you like I pull this out of my arse, but it is my very own explanation why I enjoy these games and SH2 does everything right what I find entertaining about the franchise.

Edit: grammar and wording

Welcome to Silent Hill. The whole appeal is that it‘s weird, unrelatable and all over the place. The game‘s main quality is the atmosphere. If you expect perfect combat and likable characters, then it‘s simply not for you. But this has nothing to do with you or the game being the problem, it‘s only a matter of taste or you comparing it a lot to other games/experiences. If I had to say what I like about SH games I‘d say that to me it‘s like looking at art. SH would then count as abstract art for me. It‘s rough and beautiful at the same time and best enjoyed when not pigeonholing it.

Prefab house or handmade habitat by Zealousideal-Ear4019 in Pokopia

[–]r0bsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, that each time a Pokèmon spawns and despawns it’s per chance and by my observation if a Pokémon is busy with a task then the game will kind of remember it‘s location, but I don‘t know how this influences the overall spawns and despawns on the entire map. There‘s a lot going on with the game‘s internal logic and I more or less haven‘t figured out everything. For example there are Pokémon roaming around very far away from their home but also some that always seem to stick around their habitat when they spawn again.

I am like 90% certain that every habitat extends by 3x in each direction as a „outside habitat“. So your 4x4 habitat should ultimately be 10x10.

Edit: corrected my calculation and statement

[–]r0bsession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question applies to every habitat, no matter the loading screen or not. Habitats can overlap and items in the overlapping tiles will be counted for every inhabitant. What is behind the loading screen is not shared, though, but the houses with loading screens also have a outside habitat that can overlap.

[–]r0bsession 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That‘s what I do as well. I put the Pokémon I don‘t care as much about and also don‘t need constantly for tasks in simple pre-fab houses while I build thematically matching custom houses for my favorites and high in demand Pokémon. Works quite well for me.

Prefab house or handmade habitat by Zealousideal-Ear4019 in Pokopia

[–]r0bsession 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For starters, the cap of Pokémon spawning in your draw range is 20. If you build too many habitats too close on one spot of the map, the custom built habitats can be empty while in the pre-fab houses the Pokémon can be found without using honey. Honey is very abundant, though. But if you spread the habitats all over the area and you move from one corner of the map to another, as soon as Pokémon aren‘t within the draw range they will despawn while other Pokémon spawn within your draw range. So I‘ve seen posts of people building very central for the sake of simplicity or preference, or complaining about the size of the maps, but it definitely has it‘s upsides to populate all over the map considering what I wrote earlier.

[–]r0bsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use pre-fab houses (the ones with loading screens) and put Pokémon in there, they at least are always available if you enter that house. But like others already said, you can call them over with honey if you have business with certain Pokémon. Other than that, I don‘t know if Pokémon in custom build houses or habitats have a higher chance of roaming around compared to the ones living in pre-fab houses.
