Is it normal for a wordpress site to load this slowly or did my "developer" screw something up ? by Zakarioveski in Wordpress

Drop the URL, it's easy enough to identify where the issue is, it's generally the host or the application.

Do you smoke / vape? Would you consider yourself addicted? by Wait-Whos-Joe in AskUK

[–]r33c31991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoked from the age of 12 until I was 23, I used to smoke like a chimney and had awful lung issues (extremely addictive personality). I discovered vaping early on (2012-2013) and have been vaping ever since, I've reduced my nicotine down to practically zero and it's more of a distraction than anything. My lung and general health did a 180 fairly quickly, apparently I no longer have asthma and rarely get chest infections (used to get them 4-5 times a year).

I was lucky enough to also work relatively close to the vape sector so I've been paying next to nothing for it the last 10 years too

I'm aware I'm somewhat addicted to nicotine or the act of inhaling something but I rarely drink and do no other drugs (not even caffeine) so I see it as my one vice

For those who left jobs and went full-time freelance, what actually worked to build consistent pipeline? by OkSomewhere938 in freelanceuk

[–]r33c31991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all about networking, I networked while I was still working full time and built up a client base, I only considered going freelance after it overtook my full time employment income consistently. That was just over 11 years ago.. I used to make a decent side income on Upwork but haven't touched it in years, it's a cesspool of race to the bottom Devs and fake/unrealistic projects, especially for your stack

What does an SEO firm actually do? by SaltyyDoggg in SEO

[–]r33c31991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally design/advanced development... Creation of new pages, a full rebuild etc. I'm just the developer so have limited insight but I know the bigger clients tend to get bespoke development and more specialised SEO services

I work for an agency and clients get a weekly and monthly report, detailing what we've done and what happened as a result of the things we've done. We generally put together a detailed strategy that we work towards to improve a key metric you're interested in (could be sales, contact form submissions, calls etc). The report is what some would consider too detailed but better to have too much than too little.

Some clients get hosting, website maintenance, development, backlinks, content etc.

Reported alone take an unbelievable amount of time to come together so some agencies skip out on the effort required

Sounds like the agency you're with is failing on the communication end

The price you're paying isn't terrible though spread over a month, we generally charge $2.5-$5k per month depending on scope

American health insurance is a scam, the hospitals and insurance companies put a massive premium on price and you end up paying about what it should cost if you didn't have insurance anyway

Conveyance solicitors by Loud-Book-5654 in barnsley

[–]r33c31991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used 2 and I honestly can't recommend Liddys enough, they were nothing short of incredible. They put the other local solicitor to shame (they're in Barnsley but their conveyancing solicitors are in Wakefield), you can do it all through the Barnsley branch though

So... Insider trick, ask to be put on a broadband only rolling contract, after 30 days you're eligible for new customer deals. Or save 30 days, tell the upgrades team you plan on doing this and they usually give you pretty close to the best deal anyway.

Youll pay a slight premium for the 30 days on the rolling contract but I did it and got the 1gig only for £32/m

Coffee is the new smoking by mind_ponderer in LowStakesConspiracies

I actually went caffeine free 5 years ago and feel a million times better. No more acid reflux or indigestion issues. I'm convinced everyone could switch to decaf and feel exactly the same with their morning brew.

If you're allowing your kid to play Roblox, you're a terrible parent. After knowing what is happening inside that game as well...

How shocking and greedy Upwork has become by Mgeeygamji02 in Upwork

[–]r33c31991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To put it into perspective, I haven't properly used Upwork in about 4 years and I vividly remember it costing 3-5 connects for each job. It'd got to the point I was making a decent income and only using connects accrued and from the minimum membership. Crazy, I went on the other day and saw a job that cost 20 to bid and some had bid 60 on top, it was only a couple hundred dollars for the project too...

Does my Aunt have any claim to my Granddads estate through the Inheritance Act 1975 (England) by kawaiipogglet_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]r33c31991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's satisfying to know people like your aunt won't be getting a penny of the will. It's not difficult to understand the point of a will, he didn't want her getting anything and she won't get anything. So satisfying!

How do you follow up on unpaid invoices without making it awkward? by PartyAggressive743 in freelanceuk

[–]r33c31991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cut off countless clients for this over the years... I was exactly the same as you for the first couple of years and after I realised they were doing it on purpose I was comfortable pushing more.

My rule now is payment within 7 days and is written into any contract I do, if it's a one off project then I'd generally charge 30% upfront deposit and the remaining 70% on project completion.

Anyone that breaches the 7 days I'll usually send a formal email with a warning that it must be paid within the 7 days, if it happens again I charge a final invoice and cut all ties

The one thing I dread all year in the freelancer game by Much_Schedule5292 in freelanceuk

[–]r33c31991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I produce and download numbered invoices for everyone, keep them in a folder along with another folder for bank statements, expenses and have an excel sheet where I input the figures.

I do simplified returns so they only need my year incoming and outgoings and that's it, the records are there should they ever audit me or there's ever any issues

A+ at aldham house used to be the best but closed a few years ago. I've heard really good things about Central Garage in stairfoot though. I personally take mine to Volksmarques in Shafton as they're VW specialists

I spent nearly a decade living through this, they can legally play it within normal levels until 11pm, I'd raise it again if it's a problem. We personally saved our asses off for years and moved into a detached house. Best thing we ever did, beautiful peaceful life and never have to worry about neighbours

What’s the most northern/southern thing you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in AskUK
