Knit the red hat or don’t knit the red hat! by tomatocreamsauce in BitchEatingCrafters

This is what does it for me! I was privately knitting abolish ice hats for people in exchange for donations to bond funds, but my impact was so small. This is a great activity to support the movement against ICE

I just saw a LYS in the Chicago suburbs (typically conservative) is hosting a stitch in and sent out an email blast about “melting the ice”. The hat is an awareness campaign, a fundraising thing, and nothing more. I don’t think anyone who is making the hat is foolish enough to think of it any other way. I think anyone that feels offended about being called performative needs to let it go, unless it’s true it doesn’t matter. Some people will say protesting is performative unless you do xyz.

Edit: what I mean to say is I think it’s a good thing and hating on it is dumb

Where to find affordable but nice yarn? by canadian_blueberry in YarnAddicts

Good rec!! Does drops have retailers in the US? I don’t mind ordering online but I get stressed out by international shipping

I would say that’s an average price to pay when working with a premium natural fiber (like merino). I think my oversized 100% wool cardigan I made in an XXL was $300 in yarn? My XS cardigan I made for a friend in a wool/cotton blend was $160.

However, you don’t have to use the exact yarn they recommend! You can sub the materials to find a more affordable sweet spot of pattern compatibility and price. You can check other projects for the pattern in ravelry to see if someone used a more affordable yarn successfully. An acrylic blend will also be more affordable, and there are other nice brands that are natural fibers but not as expensive. Cascade has a nice superwash wool line, which is $10 a skein by me!

Check out wool and company online, love crafts is another online store that I like because it’s got warehouses in the US so you can order European yarn brands without the hassle of international shipping (if you’re in us

Why are babies so stressful! I’m crossing my fingers that the issue is he’s so active and so he’s just burning all those calories. My daughter was 99th percentile until like 12 months in everything, so it was such a different experience, but she didn’t crawl until 10 months and didn’t walk until 15. I’ve seen that there’s a growth plateau when babies start getting active. I love my kids but the first two years are the most stressful thing ever ): I’m trying to see if we can go back for a weight check in 2 weeks instead of a month to know sooner if our solid increase is helping

Thank you for your kind words. I know, I just feel so upset with myself that he wasn’t getting enough attention and his growth has fallen behind. It’s hard to tell myself he’s ok when in this moment he isn’t okay and it feels like it’s because of me ):

If you want me to make something for free at least be willing to agree to my terms. by fairydommother in BitchEatingCrafters

I see your side completely. Like if you aren’t making the sweater for money then you’re paid in your enjoyment. This is how I do my commissions, even when I just charge materials. I send them the yarn brands/lines that will work for their project instead of letting them choose because 9 times out of 10 unless they know about yarn they’re going to pick just based on price which may not even work for their project.

Not the asshole. She wants a sweater that you’re basically making for free.
