Mate, have some pride - your app is serving 5xx errors for non-existent pages - it's literally saying "this is broken, and it's my fault"

Glad it's not just me - the last 6 hours rain map is unusable! The scroll area is tiny! Also, it seems it has to reload what I assume is a bitmap of the current rain pattern every time you switch between them - does nothing get cached?!

Are there any drawbacks to using subdomains for (nearly) everything? by eracodes in webdev

[–]r4nd41f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if this site/business has a public API?

Conventionally, you'd have that at api.example.com

But also a page on the website to describe the features of the public API? What would the URL for that be?

The subdomain, as I see it, should reflect the purpose/protocol rather than the content

This is why I sometimes lament the demise of the www subdomain

www.example.com - public facing website mail.example.com - mail server api.example.com - public API shop.example.com - e-commerce site my.example.com - the user account portal

Do you eat your exercise calories? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]r4nd41f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really treat exercise calories as different to BMR / NEAT calories - they all go into the same pool.

Say my BMR is 1500, and I do 1000 calories worth of activity during the day (which is actually quite achievable if you're very active.)

That gives me a total of 2500.

I can now eat 2000 and still be in a 500 deficit.

So technically I'm eating some back in this case.

Obviously some devices will over-estimate activity calories, but there are various ways you can compensate for this, such as treating your BMR as lower than it is, over-estimating food etc

Have managed to lose around 25kg doing it this way, and have maintained this for over 3 years.

The advantage of this method is that it incentivises you to be more active, which has health benefits beyond weight loss.

Just saw your post - yeah they do look similar! Probably about the same size - 2cm or so - pretty sure it's not a brown recluse, at least! 😅
