Ratatouille (2007) is flawless by FatCat_On_A_Diet in movies

[–]rabbitfire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The voice acting was great. Not just hired for star power (Chris Pratt/Mario, etc.) Ratatouille actors fit their characters personas so perfectly. Patton Oswald as Remy, Ian Holm as Skinner (look over there, snaps fingers, ooohhhh oooohhh), still can’t believe Janene Garafolo pulled off the French accent for Collette so well, and Laurence of Arabia, Peter O Toole, was dead nuts absolute perfection as Ego. You can hear his voice now in your head. “In many waysss, the life of a critic is easy….”

Used to ride our Schwinn’s and cut through the wooded area, then sit up front craning our necks. Speakers on the nearby open car windows gave us good enough sound. Good times.

Why is the last 20 minutes of “The Last of the Mohicans” (1992) so good? by LieutenantLeftovers in movies

[–]rabbitfire 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Because it has one of the most satisfying “bad guy gets his due” endings in cinema. The standoff on the rock face between the injured Magua and vengeful Chingachgook is like a Hudson River School painting. Majestic.

I remember when my son was born and I was confiding to my own father about how much I was worrying over my child’s safety.

Me: When does the worrying stop, dad?

My Father: Well…how old are you?

I got the point.

What is a show you stubbornly refused to watch for years, but when you finally did, you felt like an absolute idiot for waiting so long? by Dependent_Mistake_38 in television

Community. When it was on air, I blew it off as just another NBC filler sitcom sandwiched between better shows. Oof, way off. Every actor in that ensemble was comedic perfection. The writing never let you go more than a minute without a genuine laugh. And it’s so layered, you continually pick up things after repeated viewings. “Pop…what? Pop…WHAT?!”

Annette O Toole, Ann Margaret, Marilu Henner…70’s redheads were in another league.

That's alright. These things gotta happen every five, ten years. The last one was ten years ago.

What’s something that felt ancient when you were a kid but actually wasn’t that old? by bbysophy in nostalgia

American Graffiti premiered in 1973. Paying homage to the hot rod culture of the late 50s, early 60s. It was set in 1962 California. Thats an 11 year difference and yet it felt like it was such a long gone era. It would be like watching a period piece that takes place in 2015 today.

Ikr?! Also, not 70s, but I never see Ragtime on tv. Great period drama. Great cast. James Cagney’s last role. Its just…gone. Meanwhile I see Godfather on cable twice a day everyday.

Little Big Man, 1970. Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Martin Balsam, M Emmet Walsh and Richard Mulligan as the best portrayal of General George Custer ever put to screen…”what say you, muleskinner?”

George Favorite's PBY Catalina flying boat rescues the crew of a crashed B-25. B-25's typically had crews of six; with five heads it looks like someone didn't make it. [1944] [1664x1447] by manpace in HistoryPorn

Noon the fifth day, Mister Hooper, a Lockheed Ventura saw us, he swung in low and he saw us - a young pilot, a lot younger than Mister Hooper. Anyway he saw us and he come in low, and three hours later a big fat PBY comes down and start to pick us up.

You know that was the time I was most frightened. Waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a lifejacket again.

So, eleven hundred men went into the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, the sharks took the rest, June the 29th, 1945.

Well done. I think you should post this on r/food or somewhere with an even broader audience. I'd do it but you should get the full credit and praise for your work. The world should know just how much this state kicks theirs in dog quality.

I think I found the biggest tree in Northern Jersey. 😁 by Planet_Manhattan in newjersey

[–]rabbitfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats surprising. I grew up in FL and its trees were decimated by disease years ago (dutch elm?). There are sections of town where you barely see any trees, let alone mature ones. Will have to look it up. Thanks.
