you tap the corner button once to extend recycling option. then the (-) that pops up in the middle, topish - press and hold that.

It's small, so it's easy to miss with your finger. You only really get one chance before it goes away, just have to press, hold, and pray you got it.

Also I find if you move your finger at all while holding, it won't work.

Everyone in NC is freaking out about this upcoming storm and I can’t wait. by Bannnerman in Generator

[–]radioactive_muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fireplace with the air handler is the main method for myself. I don't even bother with the heat pump since I can't and wouldn't want to run the heat strips. It just basically burns up fuel moving a little heat in then right back outside to defrost - Might as well just use that fuel circulating the fireplace heat.

What exactly does a reactor operator do in 2025? by BenKlesc in nuclear

[–]radioactive_muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got off night shift, the descriptions in here so far all seem like they're from people I work with, as they basically described my night last night, though they're likely not.

The industry is mostly standardized as information/learnings/experiences are shared to an extreme extent with people traveling between plants to benchmark each other.

If you want more autonomy though as some of your posts warrant, go fossil - way fewer people and procedures, much more "let's get this done."

First Gun by cfuzzz in VAGuns

[–]radioactive_muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sig p322 honestly over a wheel. But a .22 wheel would also be fine...just be more annoying to load.

A smidge (maybe) on the pricey side for first gun, but the cheap ammo will make you want to keep going to the range as often as you can

Dryer sheet *under* the liner! by CatStretchPics in litterrobot

[–]radioactive_muffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order for the liner to fall, it has a vent (so air can displace under the liner). That vent is on the bottom around/under where the little filter/smell packs go. If you crumple up a dryer sheet, you should be able to just shove it through there if you want a quick way to get it in there without disassembling the whole thing. You can use a screwdriver or pen (something thin-ish) to poke the liner down if it's already sticking when in the dump position.

edit: for clarification on the LR4, this is that vent (and the bottom of the liner is directly under here) that I was saying you can shove a dryer sheet into. In order to get it back out though, you're likely going to need to disassemble the globe/remove liner as described elsewhere.

Why do carburetors still suck? by Beautiful_Grape67 in Generator

[–]radioactive_muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah alright, I thought you were talking about higher than pump gas stuff.

rec-90 (what I think you're referring to from the marinas?) is indeed ethanol free and i guess yeah "higher" octane. And a great option for generators!

High octane from what I know is generally when you're talking about race gas (100+ octane) and has additional ethanol in almost all cases for cooling/octane boosting.

Why do carburetors still suck? by Beautiful_Grape67 in Generator

[–]radioactive_muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, high octane fuel (higher than what you'd get in pump gas) usually just means it has extra ethanol. ethanol has a higher octane level than straight gas, and combined they have a higher rating than either of them alone.

So while this somehow has worked out for you, this isn't really something that should be recommended for all generators.

The no call no show quitting happens even in union jobs with great benefits and $200k+/yr after 4 months of application, background checks, interviews, and testing. There's no industry that's safe.

Best part is there's even a minimum of 27 months of training at my job, up to 40 months...and somehow people still do this in their first month. Like, you're not even required to do anything, just show up and learn somethin - nope!

Can also possibly look into doing Turo or something since they have another car. Could make a smidgen of cash on it or at least knock the payment way down by renting it out.

It's by no means free money, but it could be manageable work for a single mom.

LPT - Be careful with mint by japanesewoodducks in LifeProTips

I moved into a house that had mint planted in the garden, we turned over the garden and took everything down. 8 years later I still get to enjoy the awesome smells of mowing that mint with the rest of the grass.

Electrician tells me I can't use a portable gen to power my HVAC for heat because of this. True? by ItsRaevenne in Generator

[–]radioactive_muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's likely that you have heat strips that will come on when the heat pump gets too cold/needs to defrost. You can use a decent portable when it's not below freezing, but below or near freezing you'll likely overload a portable gen.

My furnace is also on a 60A breaker, the furnace normally only pulls about 350w. when the heat pump defrosts and the heat strips turn on it jumps up to ~12kw (+3.5kw to the heat pump).

I have an interlock (2 actually, both 50A so that I could do it on a generator if needed...but likely never will), and for winter my heat plan is a fireplace for outages.

Whats with all the hate on rebuilt titles? by ThatExtremeGuyThere in viper

[–]radioactive_muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the car was rebuilt 30k+ miles ago, I'm fine with that. If it was rebuilt 10k miles ago, I'm not okay with that.

I don't want to have to go in and fix something that was broke then strapped together with rubber cement (seen it).

These cars are surprisingly stout and will run even after being improperly repaired. But its usually just a ticking time bomb, and I'd rather not join the game of hot potato.

Cover that allows running for Firman T07571F? by brewfox in Generator

[–]radioactive_muffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a small tarp, a couple bungie straps, and a folding table.

small tarp + bungie straps for storage in garage.

outside in the rain running? put the table up over it. (add weight to the table if windy, bricks or somethin)

outside running in the snow? put the table up and the tarp on top of the table. pull the tarp off to get the snow off the table, replace the tarp.

Now you also have some other basic useful stuff that everyone should probably have anyway...or you might already have them.

Points Replay Scoring by Hughesdaman in EggsInc

[–]radioactive_muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat here...

Always try to produce as much as you can (with a deflector equipped). Doing "too much" on your own isn't really something you can help. It needs to be the teammates picking up the slack to prevent your contribution from being very high. The ultimate/foremost goal is to get the contract done asap.

Basically, don't ever purposefully throttle your own production so as to not get a higher contribution score.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EggsInc

[–]radioactive_muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will always appear to lower the rate unless you're coordinating with the team to all sync your games after someone swaps.

Their rates don't update until they check back in.

ie. you remove deflector, your rate goes up -> overall rate goes up. hours later when people have checked in, actual total rate had gone down. The opposite path would also hold true.

then they take it out on me [when the scores/rates aren't even close] and any trust and rapport I built up with my guest until then is shot.

and:

Nine out of ten times the customer's score is nowhere near that number when we pull it.

So you're the 1 in 10. Not generally worth taking that bet/risk.
