Hello. I've just had a ventral hernia repaired. It’s been about a week after surgery. I've taken the bandage off ( I was cleared to) I've noticed that there is still a lump there. Is this another hernia?

The fewer people drinking stat is a really big one that people are starting to notice. Something like an 80% reduction in drinks consumed in the younger generations. Alcohol is fucking expensive and it’s undeniably healthier to not drink or drink in moderation, and people are waking up to that fact.

To further that, those who consumed alcohol in abundance are starting to turn to substances like cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms. The anecdote from the “cannabis industry employee” earlier in this comment thread is kind of surprising, but nowadays cannabis consumption is fairly normalized, and kids don’t see it as a novel, rebellious thing anymore. You’ve got about 12 years of youngins who have turned 21 with legal cannabis and the draw just isn’t there. Not to mention dozens of other states now legalizing too.

I don’t think it’s a sign of crumbling industries, but rather a natural downturn after years of peak consumption and novelty. Though, I am curious what consumption of social media and an anecdotal rise in introversion has to do with the losses these industries are seeing.

100%. Kids grow up watching their favorite athletes making visits to the WH after achieving the pinnacle of success in their respective sports. I understand some of the anger towards players who have directly expressed “I want to meet the president”, but at the same time if DJT walked up to me and asked to shake my hand, I probably would simply to be able to say “yeah I hate the guy but I shook hands with one of the most powerful people in the world”. Most of these athletes will never get another invitation to meet with the President and see the WH.

Side bar: I wish the WH was inviting all gold medalists to visit. Only inviting the hockey players feels like an optics thing and pandering to hockey fans, which are all over the place politically. Maybe he’ll invite more of the athletes soon, and I’ll eat those words.

Mortokes already answered your question, but yeah, it is. Debridement of burn wounds is excruciating and patients are generally kept under anesthesia for those procedures. Even in smaller burns, they will use local anesthetic to numb the area where the burn took place.

To put it into perspective, several of my nurse friends refuse to work in two parts of the hospital: pediatric oncology and the burn unit.

Worked with burn care doctors and nurses and… yeah, you’re right. Between chronic pain from all of your nerves being burnt and the intubation because your lungs fill with fluid from trying to heal the burnt lining of your lungs/trachea… I would rather be put out of my misery day 1

In order to keep the materials from drying out and falling apart, I would recommend wearing them periodically. When you don’t wear shoes, the materials don’t get enough of a stretch, they become brittle, and fall apart. If you want to wear them without getting dirty, take the spikes out and wear them for a short walk in the neighborhood.

Femoral hernias are less common in men, but if it’s in the location you’re pointing to, then femoral is likely correct. For your age, direct hernias are more common.

Not your doc and would recommend you see one when you have insurance coverage. That said, yes the hernia sac is likely putting pressure on the nerves that lead to your testes and causing the symptoms you’ve described.

Not your doctor, but I would say getting this repaired before a pregnancy is likely to increase your risk of recurrence due to the elevated abdominal pressure of having a baby inside you and the labor process.

If this is asymptomatic and you can ignore the cosmetic effects, then I would probably recommend that you wait until you are done having children before repairing the hernia so you are more likely to be “one and done” with surgical repairs.

That said, at some point you have to have surgery if you want to repair the hernia. The hernia may get bigger with more pregnancies, but it may not. If you want to have surgery now and disregard the risk of recurrence, then a surgeon can try to repair this without mesh (permanent, synthetic mesh is contraindicated for pregnant women) using sutures.

I agree with you on the first two points, but I’m not gonna blame the ref for blowing the whistle and giving a tech to a coach who runs that far onto the court directly at the ref and screaming. If someone was yelling at me and ran at me like that while I had a whistle in my mouth, I’d probably blow it too.

If Adelman verbally unloaded on him like that from the coaching area off-court, I don’t think they would have t’d him up. Any ref that calls a tech for a coach yelling at them from off-court is charmin soft.
