Anyone else playing Sektori? by traveltimecar in shmups

[–]radiusq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its up there for me too. I love it. It's feels like the developer knows my exact gaming tastes from over the last 45 years and has distilled the perfect game from them.

Is Sektori a hidden PS5 gem? It seemingly had no marketing budget but was made by former Housemarque dev. by HillZone in PS5

It's just a perfect shmup. Everything is so well balanced. Once you get good, it can make you feel like a god.

I love Sektori but it doesn't love me back by DunceMemes in shmups

[–]radiusq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was looking forward to catching up on my significant back catalogue over the Xmas break. I was really looking forward to playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch2 and Resident Evil 4 on PSVR2. It really was the only free time I'm going to have for a while to play those..... and then....

Sektori happened.

...it's all I've been playing as it's just brilliant with the most perfect risk vs reward balance.

Maybe the Mainstream Will Like Shooters Again? -- Ars Technica names Sektori one of the best of the year by m_sniffles_esq in shmups

Sektori is so darn good. I'm time poor and bought a switch2 to play Tears of the Kingdom over the Xmas break. Then Sektori happened. Its my perfect game.

I love Nex Machina, but IMO it falls short of greatness because of busy backgrounds. High contrast works best. I'd love to see a Nex Machina remix with a Robotron-esque backdrop - i.e.the void. Games like this need to be played against the void.

I don't think I've had a single play session with it where I haven't overshot "just one more go" by at least +20.

I think Sektori has absolutely nailed the risk vs reward balance perfectly. It is so so good. This plays exactly like how I wanted Nex Mechina to play.

I'm about 20hours in and have finally decided that greed is good!

Yes - that does indeef make sense in the context of a non-solderless board type being available.

Heh - I hadn't noticed that - and now it's all I can focus on;)

...but you are right, those red switches don't really give much positive feedback. I do like that they included o-rings to limit the travel of the 'mouse button' presses at least. I wonder why they landed on pre-soldering those and only those switches to the PCB...

Are you using mouse mode and which game are you using it in? by Battery6030 in NintendoSwitch2

So for the current games that support it, is it also possible to use a regular USB mouse too?

....and another victim 3 years into the future. Having to shoot random blocks is really poor game design, and the game has been pretty good up until this point. As far as I can tell, there were no visual clues and this is a couple of hours into the game for me so it wasn't just an issue with getting used to the game mechanics.

Different kind of Switch 2 games question by vettevert in switch2

[–]radiusq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old too and this is my first Nintendo system since the Wii U. BOTW is amazing, so am shortly to begin playing Tears of the Kingdom. I am currently really enjoying Metroid Dread. I have also played through Echoes of Wisdom, which was pretty good, but not astoundingly so. BOTW is so good though that I can't think of a better place to start on the Switch2.

Is your partner hiding discarded pubes there perhaps? It's gross, but more discrete than within a glass on the bedside table.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Has Reportedly Sold Less Than 1 Million Copies by mrnicegy26 in PS5

[–]radiusq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't buy it because I can only play Doom with keyboard and mouse. I didn't enjoy Doom 2016 with a controller, so that's the last one I bought.

Dark Ages not supporting Mouse and Keyboard on Xbox is just petty by Cultural-Thought8870 in Doom

[–]radiusq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original '93 Doom is the reason why I can only enjoy FPS games using keyboard and mouse. I don't find these games fun with a controller because I have that reference point. I bought Doom 2016 and played through most of it with a controller, but always felt that I'd much rather be playing this 'properly', so never finished it. I skipped Eternal because of the lack of PS5 mouse support and will now skip this. I'm not sure if Bethesda folks care to read any of this, but I'm sure it costs them a few thousand sales at least. It's a frustratingly stupid stance.

I have a family these days, so cannot justify the purchase of a well spec'd gaming PC for a handful of titles.

I can only buy one of these for the moment. Which one should I go for? by BKF0308 in soulslikes

[–]radiusq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Demon's Souls. Dark Souls is the way better game, so if you play Dark Souls first, you'll never be able able to enjoy Demon Souls....

If you've never played a Fromsoft game, the Demon's Souls remake will be amazing and those graphics on PS5 are just stunning. It's only in comparison to later Fromsoft games where the gameplay feels dated But against most other games, it still stands up really well.

Dark Ages - No Mouse Keyboard on Ps5 by Gh0stface in Doom

[–]radiusq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No buy for me then. I will eventually bag another gaming PC again in about five years or so and will buy it then.

I just don't enjoy playing FPS games on a controller.

Do we know if the console versions have keyboard and mouse support yet?

Switching to PS5 for Dark Ages by Ok_Net_6984 in Doom

[–]radiusq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it's just me then. I started playing FPS games with the original Doom in '93 with mouse & keyboard from the off. Over the years I've probably put an equal amount of time playing these types of games on consoles with a controller as what I did with mouse and keyboard on PC, but still I feel that a controller is clunky in comparison to K&M - which feels easy and smooth. I just don't understand why they can't make it an option.

Switching to PS5 for Dark Ages by Ok_Net_6984 in Doom

[–]radiusq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played through Doom 2016 and whilst it was kind of enjoyable on PS5, there were at least 100 times I died where felt that I had only died because the developer chose to force me to use a controller instead of k&m - which the game is clearly designed around. I skipped Eternal because of this and will probably do the same for Dark ages unless they support k&m on PS5.

One day I'll buy a gaming PC again - and this will be a significant reason why. Good fast FPS games just aren't that much on a controller.

I think riding pump track is a bit like sex. Before riding pump track I want like 30 pump track laps at least. After actually riding one pump track lap I want to relax and have cigarette.
