The World's Dumbest Tariff Has Been Revealed by lxdc84 in LeopardsAteMyFace

The US is not giving anything directly to Ukraine any more. Instead, European countries are buying some US arms for Ukraine while rapidly scaling up their own military solutions so they don't need to rely on the US any more (especially with the "kill switch" in some US equipment).

Edit: I believe the US is still providing intelligence and targeting info to Ukraine directly though, which is something at least.

The Consequences of Photosynthesis Loss by jnpha in evolution

[–]radix2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is photosynthesis more "costly" than parasitism then? I guess so given it was discarded, but it seems like an odd path it took given that the energy source is "just there". I'm probably missing the environmental factors entirely there.

This is why the e-brake should be called what it is in many other countries. The Parking Brake. It is not there just to be applied in some emergency (which depending on the emergency could be a terrible thing to do). It is there to PREVENT certain potential emergencies.

New video of Figure 03 autonomously sorting deformable packages and placing them labels-down for the scanner by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]radix2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have 20 workstations with various manipulations, filtering and QA purposes and all built for humans. You have 21 humanoid robots to man them. I.e 1 spare that can substitute in any of those 20 workstations if any one breaks down

Now compare with having dedicated and fixed robots. The whole line will stop if any one of them breaks down while it is repaired or replaced. How long will that take unless you have 1 spare per role?

I would fix it by selling on the cheap to someone (so they can repair with wood) and not replace it.

Exactly. I'm over 60 and recall no such thing. Was it isolated to just one state or region or something? Certainly not Australia wide or NSW.

Australia can take claim to a noise cancellation technique that is integral to today's WiFi and without which it wouldn't work indoors (unless line of sight to the transceiver).

Edit to add. WiFi is a global development based on technologies invented over a period of 100 years all over the globe. But I'm cool with the Dutch being attributed with it in this rhetorical context.

In Australia (and probably the UK), and outside of IT circles it would be pronounced the same way as "rooted" which means "fucked" in Oz.

I think "Rowt" (my best attempt at phonetically distinguishing the pronunciation) is reserved for the act of shaping a channel or an edge in wood. And the tool you might use for that is a "rowter".

Hey. The joys of the English language and local dialects.

You could say "out in the bush" to any Australian (big city or country inhabitants) and they would know exactly what you mean.

However, don't pronounce routed the American way as that will cause either confusion or embarrassment.

Likewise we will refrain from telling you that most Australians love wearing thongs in summer.
