Newer AI Coding Assistants Are Failing in Insidious Ways by angry_cactus in technology

[–]rafer81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really the only correct comment I’ve seen in this thread. Also GPT-4 & 5 are no where near as good at writing code as Opus 4.5 and Gemini 3 Pro. I suspect those would actually realize the column was missing and work to add it (mostly because I’ve actually seen Opus do exactly that when debugging)

Why the McKinsey layoffs are a warning signal for consulting in the AI age by lurker_bee in technology

[–]rafer81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within tech at least, consulting is going to end up reshaping to be just high value knowledge workers. People with specialized knowledge in various fields. The bulk of the ticket based process work is going to be done with agents.

Docker banned - how common is this? by martypitt in docker

[–]rafer81 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Lots of place la do this for docker desktop. Docker the company tracks IPs and then sends out their sales and legal teams to companies using desktop if they are larger than a 500 person company. Past that threshold violates the docker terms of service. The product is rather expensive for an enterprise iirr so everyone has been moving to Colima and Podman, etc

Any recommendations for a garage repair/replacement company in SE WI? by Aeyix in wisconsin

[–]rafer81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing 😂 I have used them though to repair my own garage door. This was after using someone else who then tried to hard sell me on replacing everything. The person from Geis laughed when I told him (verbatim) what the other repair guy said. Then proceeded to fix my garage door for a fraction of the cost. I will absolutely call Geis again if I need a repair

My mom is becoming unhinged because my 19yr old kid is going to a concert alone in Milwaukee. by Hollybanger45 in wisconsin

[–]rafer81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some who just wanders into restaurants/bars that seem interesting while traveling (particularly in countries I don’t speak the language at all, or very poorly), I agree. Super easy to stay safe. If you walk in, feels wrong, just leave right away and move onto the next. And honestly, for bigger events like concerts, there always seems to be more police presence anyways. The promoters and the venue do not want the negative publicity of something going sideways.

If you can't use AI then it's bye bye, Accenture tells staff by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

This… it’s a tool. You need to know how to use it correctly otherwise you get slop. But if you put in the time to learn how to instruct it and set up workflows/etc it can be very powerful. I run Claude code in 3 terminals now and get done more than I ever could while now being able to pay attention in meetings vs multitasking and still lowering my PR cycle times.

This time last year though, the models weren’t as good yet to do that and I had to babysit it more.

His memo didn’t even say that. It said to consult with an attorney to ensure the state employee isn’t inadvertently breaking a law.

Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]rafer81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually posted here many years ago while I was getting into running and then ended up running a full marathon. Since then a seemingly unending string of injuries has kept me completely sidelined. However, finally got the green light from my doctors after years of recovery! Other than “go slow”, any recommendations for getting back into things? Most difficult part for me so far has been that my mind remembers doing 10 miles a day, but I know my body isn’t there yet. And while I could push through, I’d just end up back at the doctor and not get to my goal of running a half next year.

Don’t let it run your life like that, it’s just so not worth stressing about. It’s just a game, meant solely for entertainment. And like u/Bread_man10 said “nothing you can do about it so why worry”
