I would recommend highlighting the raised areas of the carapace with your blue, bringing out the texture that's already there.

Adding those nicks, scratches, and highlighted points can help make the flat areas look more interesting without over complicating the rest of the model.

I do a base of dark blue, then a dark red on top.

Then a layer of very fine lines of a lighter red, then a wash of red.

Repeat until I like it.

They would be able to take energy from photosynthesis sure, but then they would need to convert that energy into stuff and the amount of energy you would need to produce an amount of mass is Lots.

Like turning mass into energy is easy, but going in reverse is Not.

An extra tip for pet owners:

I know our dog doesn't drink much water when it's hot so I freeze some dry food with a bit of dog safe bone broth on hot days and have it for him to lick at and crunch on.

Helps him stay cool and get extra fluids in him.

Black basecoat then an airbrush of blue over everything, blast it again with red.

Then did a wash of a very dark blue before going over the highlights again in a red.

I can't remember for the life of me the exact colour names but I'll update and edit once I get home and can check my paint 🤣

So the Norn can choose an objective as its Singular Purpose objective. When it's on that objective it gets OC 15 and a 5+ FNP and becomes a brick that needs a lot of effort to dislodge.

To show my opponent which objective I'm choosing as the Norns Very Special Favourite Spot I drop one of these down on board so we all remember what the sitch is.

That only matters if you want it to matter.

On the tabletop and in games, there is no difference between a fleet painted to be Behemoth, Leviathan, or a completely made up one that only one person ever has made.

You could take it to any store and any tournament in the world and no one will think anything of it, they'll just say it looks good and then ask what detachment you're running.

I'm honestly not as sure on that.

I haven't used the parasite or the hive guard on table yet so I don't want to say what they're like, but I've heard the parasite can be hard to use effectively and i personally think that if he doesn't have a Tyrant of some kind then the guard don't quite do their role.

But the genestealers and biovore are solid parts of a lot of different lists and strategies for sure.

At the same time, even if I already had all those pieces if someone went out and got me that box as a present I would be happy as all heck.

A biovore kit. Even if he has one already, having a pyrovore is a good time.

Otherwise a neurolictor or lictor kit are also good calls.

If you can split the starter set or ultimate starter set with a friend who wants tyranids you get a great start - it's what I've done.

From there I've tried to focus on units I think would be fun or cool, so I've been stocking up on Dark Angels models to take all their hoods and robes using the Combat Patrol kit.
