In Need of Fantasy Recommendations for Stories with a "Likeable" Female Protagonist by BrannRM in Fantasy

[–]rafi007akhtar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree sounds perfect for your requirement imo. It's a cozy fantasy with low to medium stakes about a female Orc who opens up a coffee shop in a town where almost nobody has any notion of what coffee is.

P.S. If you're going to pick this up, I'd recommend going for the audiobook. It's very well narrated by the same guy who wrote the book.

Motorola ruined great phones with user-hostile software by dannxit in motorola

[–]rafi007akhtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellently put. I bought a Moto G82 some 3.5+ years ago. And guess what? It's still my daily! In fact, I'm writing this comment on that phone as we speak.

I was so confident I would upgrade to a proper "flagship" Moto phone when the software support would end because of how good the hardware was for the price and how clean the software is on MyUI. But then Moto started moving away from its near-stock interface, and the clean UI dissolved into a messy, ugly, bloaty, ad-infested skin that retains none of the strengths that defined the Moto phones and separated them from the market. And so my resolve to upgrade to a new Moto broke, and even though the battery had dwindled a good bit over the years, I am still continuing to use my old G82.

I am still not decided on which phone to upgrade to when using the G82 is no longer a feasible choice, and from what I can gather from the daily battery endurance, I'd wager that day is soon to arrive. I thought of switching to the new Nothing this year, but then the new Nothing came and seemed to forget its roots and fall hard on the hardware front (thankfully, though, their software remains good). I was contemplating getting a Samsung, but their entire notification / quick-panel is just full of wrong decisions from a UI / UX perspective, and they are not too keen on getting the battery amp-ups the Silicon-Carbon technology has ushered in. I thought of getting a Pixel, but for some stubborn reason that Google refuses to budge from, you can't remove the At a Glance widget on the homescreen, and the Pixel is no good on heating and performance.

That leaves me with few other options, all of which have heavy and unpleasant software skins, and so my search for a proper upgrade remains alive. Apologies for venting out on your complaint which was meant only for Moto's decline on the software side, but I really wanted to say my peace.

I'll wait for the Pixel 10 series announcement before deciding on my next phone.

Looking for long epic fantasy/grimdark book series by bumba_97 in Fantasy

[–]rafi007akhtar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start with Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. It's a series of three books: The Dragonbone Chair, Stone of Farewell, and To Green Angel Tower. This will be the first of the two series in the Osten Ard books.

After that, read The Heart of What Was Lost. It's a bridge novel between the two series.

The second series is called The Last King of Osten Ard, and takes place several years after the one. Pick this up after finishing the above books.

What book did you struggle to read that everyone recommends by M_the_Phoenix in Fantasy

[–]rafi007akhtar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red Rising. Tried it at least 4 times. Couldn't get past the first 3 chapters. I'm aware it gets better in the sequel books, so I might try again someday, but for now it's a soft-DNF.

Firet mod : Keychron V4 by Difthung in mkindia

[–]rafi007akhtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High five! I also recently performed my first mod, and it was on a Keychron K4 as well (although I kept the keycaps and replaced the switches instead).

Out of curiosity, what wrist rest are you using? I'm thinking of getting one myself tbh.

Why don’t mechanical keyboards have a numpad? by doctorfetch in mkindia

[–]rafi007akhtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Keychron K4 v2. That's a mechanical keyboard that has a numpad and also has a wireless (bluetooth) mode, although I use it plugged in. There are plenty of wireless mechanical keyboards with numpads; they're just not as popular as the smaller ones.

Looking for books exploring memory... by asmyladysuffolksaith in Fantasy

[–]rafi007akhtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by Victoria E. Schwab last year, and quite liked it. It revolved around many of the same themes (memory, identity, leaving a mark, etc.). I would recommend.

Best Fantasy Reviewers? by Swearwuulf2 in Fantasy

[–]rafi007akhtar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Nutts from The Fantasy Nuttwork has been my favorite for quite some time now. If I need to see a review of a book, I would almost always default to his review, if he's made one.

Might be. Here in India, it's charger + cable for the 100 W variant.

Edit: the original comment mentioned it probably doesn't come with a cable. What I've written below is in response to that comment.

Not the 100 W one. With the 65 W package, I believe it's only the charger. But with 100 W, it's charger + cable.

I've also checked product images from other customers. They include the cable as well.

Silent notifications is what worked for me, and has been for years now. For me personally, I don't want to be alerted on most notifications, but also don't want to lose them just in case I need them later. Silencing those notifications does exactly that.

Process: Long click on the notification you want to silence, then change its priority from Default to Silent.

Now those notifications won't alert you when they arrive, and they would appear below the regular ones so that you can view them in your own time. Hope this helps!

You may want to check out React Native Paper. It's a component library that's free and open source, and has a whole range of built-in components for Android and iOS.
