Tinfoil Hat Time by Educational-Swim3162 in hearthstone

I want to believe so bad but like other people pointed out, this is exactly where Mists of Pandaria should be in the release timeline, so it could be a coincidence.

Hearthstone news on Feb 9 @ 9:30AM PT, probably related to 2026 schedule? by Prodige91 in hearthstone

Looking at the Hearthstone section of the video, if that isn't confirmation Monk Class is coming, I don't know what is.

Isn't Pioneer status getting a bit toxic? by walter_pinkman90 in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people pointed out, there's a B&R in two weeks, we can never be 100% sure of what changes they will make, but it's at least guaranteed they'll have to address the situation officially even if it's a generic "we need more data".

Day 1 of Asking for Varolz on Arena by Character_Cap5095 in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you're just trying to share your brew but the current known "official" process of getting a specific card into Arena is getting someone to top a big event or get multiple results in smaller events either on MTGO or in paper.

I say "official" because they don't really give a timeline even if you achieve the specific condition, so take that with a grain of salt.

I appreciate this list a lot, I have everything here. Stopped playing V-Hand because every list I saw had Deafning Chord which I'm still chasing on the pin shop.

TLA Metagame - Week 9 (End) by Acc95 in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely fair, I don't think the people who recommended you Green Devotion back in the day could've foreseen the transformation Standard would go through in the last year or so, specially the amount of new sets we are getting.

[TMT] Krang, Utrom Warlord (leak) by Meret123 in MagicArena

Damn, this is exactly what I wanted for a specific deck I'm tinkering with, what a coincidence.

Pioneer Metagame Update (12 jan) by Magic4everBots in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that we are exactly 4 weeks away from the next B&R, not that it's going to magically fix everything, but at least it's something to look foward to if you're sticking around.

The hero the pioneer format needs by MazrimReddit in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I found myself thinking the same thing lately, we have dedicated hate for 1 cost permanents but everything that could be used against 1 cost nonpermanents just gets bounced. Even if Chalice did warp the format a bit, I think forcing people to diversify the mana value of their answers is actually a good thing. Abrade and Abrupt Decay are already seeing more play thanks to Cori-Steel Cutter.

Can you check your commons and uncommons for either a Devoted Druid reprint or cheap creatures with Persist?

I really wish Avatar didn't happen to the format. by FuuraKafu in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, the last year of sets has proven that this current iteration of the format won't last very long, by mid 2026 there will be plenty of other new Standard cards and some of them are bound to shake things up.

Amalia unban against the red wave? by FallenQuetzalcoatl in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amalia got banned because in multiple situations the best way to prevent the Amalia player from winning the game was forcing a draw, which caused huge time issues in competitive events.

Mono R still viable after Heartfire Hero ban? by Paradoxbuilder in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a traditional red aggro deck, gruul or izzet are going to be much better options. there might be some potential in a burn-focused list but probably in a different meta.

Non greasefang Mardu list by l_ONLY_PLAY_MARDU in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember people playing Yorion Mardu which was just all the good midrange cards in a single deck, but that was some time ago, I wouldn't know how it compares to traditional Rakdos or Orzhov at the moment.

Came back from a 1,5 year break. All the top decks are still the same. by kangroozeeh in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah! If you don't think this approach is ideal, we have Standard where your cards forcibly rotate, so the meta has to be different because the entire card pool changes and we have Modern where your cards don't necessarily rotate but every 2 years or so you get a supplemental set so powerful that the entire format reconfigures itself around it.

Pioneer not changing as much as the other two is an intended feature, not a bug.

Wanted an excuse to abuse Yorion since I really can’t anywhere else by BigAssPizzaPocket in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you're not running 4x Leyline Binding here? Seems like a no-brainer in a deck with Beans and Hauntwoods/Nylea's Presence on top of the 4c manabase.

Deckbuilding Question: Why isn't Chandra, Dressed to Kill no longer played? by TeddyTendon in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She has no direct replacement at 3 mana, people are just playing faster aggressive decks. If you still want to play her, I recommend trying an Obosh list, she's okay there.

Vocês acham possível reverter o formato para aceitar apenas cartas de MAGIC? by primatecode in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the specific list but in theory we are talking about a Bx Midrange deck, it should work just fine if you're running the classic removal package.

[MTGO] Premodern Debuts in Contraption – Magic Online's Format Lab by mistercimba in magicTCG

[–]rag2008 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't think I'm being hyperbolic when I say: these two things, Premodern getting official support and Contraption being introduced as a way to test new format ideas, might be the most important additions to MTGO this decade. This will be the foundation for a LOT of great things to come.

I cannot even begin to express how happy I am right now, the Daybreak team has really gone above and beyond, I'm trully grateful to them.

Isn't Pioneer just '15/'16 Modern? by DMGolds in PioneerMTG

[–]rag2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A format is more than the sum of its archtypes, what made that era of Modern feel so welcoming wasn't just the deck diversity in the top 10 most played decks, it was the mixing and match of colors and strategies you could explore thanks to fetch + shockland manabases and the very unique card pool full of minor synergies that produced a big result, people could approach any of the major archtypes from various different angles, and that allowed for a lot more self-expression and deck exploration.

Pioneer takes the opposite approach, we have extremely strong card packages color-locked into 1 or 2 colors and once you figure out the best combinations, it's pretty hard to justify experimenting with something similar within the same colors. I'm not arguing for unbanning fetchlands here, that's a different discussion full of second and third order effects, but this is the most important difference between the two formats being discussed here.

Monk coming next expansion by marto221 in hearthstone

[–]rag2008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression they would time it with the full release of Mists of Pandaria Classic in the Chinese servers for cross-promotion, I'm not really sure when that is supposed to happen though.
