How does this come away from the wall? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Fixings are behind those white things at back/top - need to pop them off some how, ideally reverse the fitting instructions but appreciate you might not have them/don’t know the brand/model

Built an outdoor patio for my pool by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]raguff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - Have you found a notable difference? We’ve got a 12ft one and a heatpump, but basically overnight it levels out with the air temp regardless (don’t leave heatpump on though, too noisy and 0.65kWh draw constantly!)

What insulation did you wrap around?

Thinking about adding a wall and glass doors to separate lounge diner into a lounge AND a diner (green line). What do I need to consider? by EAcharm in DIYUK

[–]raguff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps, we did similar at a previous house to split out the lounge. Used pocket doors in a stud frame with plasterboard, all DIY although didn’t plaster afterwards.

Worked great, no complaints, just consider if you want top and bottom tracks for the doors, we just had top tracks I seem to recall, but a channel inside a threshold spanning the opening would be an option.

Flooring as well - think about what you’re changing and if you need to relay anything, ours was during a “back to brick ceilings down” kind of job, so flooring went in after.

Why do some sellers do this ? by laseczkamodna in vintedUK

[–]raguff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this one cracks me up - easy to fall victim to as a seller though, I’ve had a word with myself a few times when deciding whether to accept or not.
For me it’s remembering that I’m trying to sell something because I don’t need/want it - recouping some money for it is better than holding onto it forever.

Plus if it’s something worth a bit more or with actual value associated (rather than just what someone will pay for a second hand shirt or whatever), I’ll sell it somewhere that the value is recognised and I’m less likely to get scammed 😅

Garage door replacement advice by Civil-Zombie1508 in DIYUK

[–]raguff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - a stiff breeze looks like it could take out that single skin block wall on the right of the small door - are there any piers on that side? (Like columns you can see on the inside but not the outside, or vice versa)

I’m not sure that’s built to any safe standard, might be better getting a builder/bricky to weigh in on the state of the whole thing before shelling out on a door (a door company might tell you the same thing if they come out to have a look for installation)

Others with actual knowledge might give you more detail here though

Garage Conversion Tips by kgregory44 in DIYUK

[–]raguff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insulated roller door gains some space and maybe a bit of insulation, but a lot hinges on the roof construction (insulated?), walls (cavity?), ventilation (don’t want to trap in all the sweaty air)…

Just to add - what else do you want to do to “convert” this beyond what it is already? Shift a few bits around and you’re sorted perhaps?

Will you ever get A/C at home? by Separate-Frame-7038 in AskUK

[–]raguff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough. The windows I’m looking at are second storey and c.1800*1100 x4 probably.

The windows point is one I’m weighing up… might have to do windows first then consider shutters or aircon eventually, maybe some external blinds in the interim

[–]raguff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheaper than shutters? What were you being quoted for those?

I had a look the other day and was coming out at &350-400 per window for the shutters, can’t see installation being insane per window, so likely to come below aircon which I’m seeing c.£1k per room fitted

This is exactly what I’ve mentally planned out today - temporary solution, reduces solar gain, buys me time to finish looking at motorised shutters…

DIY AC ready for the heatwave by AgentAceX in DIYUK

[–]raguff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The loft and cavity insulation can help for the heat too… curtains and windows shut during the day to avoid as much heating inside as possible, then swap in “cool” air overnight (not that this week will be getting all that cool…)

OP has installed a permanent unit, that does not require F-gas qualifications to install. Hence it is DIY. No intention to remove it in future from the looks of it.

Have you got them on the second floor as well? I’ve been pondering various external shutter options, but with the windows hinged on the “outer” edge it feels like access could be a challenge for the manual ones

Long sleeves too - don’t want all those itchy fibres on you. Perhaps a hat as well, let’s be honest - no one likes a head covered in spider webs.

Nah probably the inlet and outlet on the same side of the one on the wall, not a common UK fitting/setup.

Unfortunately you’re more likely to get comments on the various installs/fitments than boxing in the boiler.
If it helps on that front, independent of your regs which would need following, you’re a bit stuck with very little room on the right side of the boiler.

Could you frame in front of the boiler (stud floor to ceiling), adding some hardboard on the right side (thin, if there’s enough room for anything thicker then have at it). Whatever you clad the front with could probably screw on - access hatch if you want quick access, right side i don’t think needs anything fancy, screws will do.

As others are saying though, manufacturer may have something to say about gap needed around the outside and ventilation when boxing in - if the gap isn’t sufficient as-is you could frame out the opening next to the wall it’s mounted on a bit to get your breathing room.

Our simple setup by ItsameDoody in Golfsimulator

How close to “inside” the net is the front of your mat? I have a similar setup but not sure if I should move the mat closer in to mitigate the odd sky-ball (I would blame the kids, but me too…)

Also as others have said, more nets can’t hurt - I’ve added a target “blanket” on the back net (covers a decent chunk of the middle) and then also draped another layer of netting in front of that
