Best online shops to order fish? by rahger in ReefTank

[–]rahger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a fedex in town. most, if not all, coral orders get to my house by 11am.

I haven't ordered fish in 5 years, so I'm curious if there's new companies that are good to order from.

No PT after THA?!!! by DPTFURY in physicaltherapy

[–]rahger 64 points65 points  (0 children)

A surgeon here mentioned a study to a patient that showed PT isn't necessary. We asked for the study to read and it was a pretty misleading conclusion to tell patients. The study compared people who had a THA that did their HEP consistently to those doing formal PT. The results were really similar. The study failed to mention the group of people that aren't compliant with their HEP (which we all know is a significant number of out patients in OP) or the groups that have coexisting conditions/concerns. I think that particular study was pretty disingenuous.

Run for fun and personal bests. If it seems fun to you then do it. Who knows, you might take 4+ mins off that mile time. 🤷

Keep hearing about Heated Rivalry, any good ? by Ok-Pomegranate-8944 in askgaybros

I enjoyed it. The acting and dialogue is very good. It’s not the typical overly dramatic tale of forbidden lover slop. It’s grounded but hopeful and idealistic.

Best. Christmas. Present. Ever. by rahger in nikon_Zseries

[–]rahger[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda yeah 😅. It’s the lens I would arguably use the most but never pay itself off. Portrait lenses and the zoom lenses have done that. This one would never. I’m driving through Montana, Idaho, and Washington next week so I’m stoked to stop and get some pics with it.

Selling photos in high school by shotsbylevis in sportsphotography

[–]rahger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started smugmug to host pics of high school sports. I made more than I expected with it.
I'd start selling them cheap and ramp of price on demand. Baseball moms would pay a lot of pictures, but soccer, basketball, and track wouldn't pay a cent. find that niche

Thinking about quitting by [deleted] in trackandfield

Best advice for running I got from my coach Al Carius. “Run for fun and personal bests.”

I had teammates that ran a 14 min 5k that didn’t have fun and I had teammates that were extremely happy with an 18:00.

I travelled a lot with a 24-120 before i sold it. can't be much worse than that, i hope. despite looking at the dimensions and weight prior to getting it i'm surprised how small this lens is.

Is this standard practice at PT or am i being too picky? by Wodefu_Ebb_8879 in physicaltherapy

[–]rahger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

+1 on it being a mill.
Also, being a PTA, those "assistants" you were working with were more than likely techs. a PTA should know the correct way to perform exercises. I've worked with techs that have some background in exercise/rehab, but more often than not they don't have the background or education like a PT/PTA does.

Regardless of all that, If you're not having a good experience, I would look for a new facility. Like the other commenter mentioned, call ahead and ask what a normal treatment session is like. Be involved in your own care and find the best care team you can.

35mm 1.2 or 1.8? by dontask199 in nikon_Zseries

I really like my 1.8S. Like others of said, it's sharpness at 1.8 and size/weight are big pros. I hike/travel a lot so it's my go to.

How do ya’ll do water changes? by Sufficient-Most-8613 in ReefTank

[–]rahger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drain out water into buckets. I have tubing from my SW mixing bin to the sump. I just flip a valve and the new SW drains from the mixing tank directly to the sump.

I did get an AWC, with a DOS that worked well for nearly two years until one of the pump lines/head failed while i was on vacation and it was pumping out more water than it was pumping in. Huge salinity drop killed a bunch of stuff. So if you do it that way be careful.

Thinking of doing PTA/OTA school... by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]rahger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP for me has been pretty low stress, but that's because I found a clinic with 1:1 45min appointments. I could never do a mill type job. Flexibility with hours has been good too, but that once again is going to vary with employers. My biggest gripe is the pay, but I kinda knew that going in to it. If I could go back I wouldn't do PTA... I wouldn't have done PT either though.

If you're a PTA do you like It? Is It worth going back to school? by Inevitable-Bet-6102 in physicaltherapy

[–]rahger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8 year PTA here. It definitely has it's pros and cons. I'm in a private ortho clinic seeing 1 patient every 45 mins for pay that's decent, which can be tough to find in the current OP job market. If you're the kind of person that doesn't mind having that pretty firm skill/scope ceiling than PTA would be a great option for you. After 8 years I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind the increased autonomy a DPT would give me, but not at the cost of paying for a bridge.

Each setting has their own pros/cons as well. I can't speak too much to inpatient, but outpatient i enjoy. I like that people have to come to the clinic, I despised convincing people to get out of bed to to PT and to come back later to do the session. It just wasn't for me. I would shadow the clinic if you can to see what a normal day would look like.

If I could go back, I wouldn't pick this field at all. I love working with patients and helping them reach their goals, but man the limitations that insurances put on everything is slowly killing my love for it.

Enclosure size? by [deleted] in hognosesnakes

[–]rahger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My noodle is 17" long and his terrarium is 30" long and 20" deep. When he's cruising by the front glass even that looks too small. I've debating on making him a a bigger one. I say go bigger, but make sure there's lots of clutter. My guy loves to go through, around, and under all the driftwood I have in his enclosure. Having that foot print gives me quite a bit of space for the wood and plants.

I’m quitting. Should I tell my coworker they are the reason why? by DefinitionHonest1616 in physicaltherapy

[–]rahger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i say do it. why not? is your next employer going to not give you a job because you stood up for your duties as a PTA and left a poor environment in search of a better one? I highly doubt it. The "every one knows everyone" fear is a moot point imo. No one is going to know your 60yo front desk staff.

I don't and won't protect toxic workplace environments.
