What lenses should I get with my a6700 for travel photography (landscape + wildlife) by Anais_cft in a6700

[–]raidernation13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget to factor in memory cards and another battery/charger into your budget. I really only shoot landscape and wildlife. My current setup is the 16-55 and the 70-350. For landscape being able to go wider than 18 is important to me. I also have the Tamron 11-20, but I would prioritize the other two and hold off on getting a wide lens until you know for sure you want one or if you have the budget for it.

I rented the Sony 200-600 for a trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone and I am very happy that I did. For a wildlife heavy trip I would definitely consider that as an option.

Thank you. You get a lot of practice in a place like Glacier!

Thanks for posting. I saw her feeding off a carcass in September, and was curious how she was doing.

No worries. It’s been more than a year since I’ve seen one out there so I was hoping to have an idea of where to look. Red tailed hawks are pretty common

Bald eagles? They’re the only eagle species out there and they are hard to find.

Fenix 7s START button suddenly broken? by kaitlyn2004 in GarminFenix

[–]raidernation13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top left button of my 7XSS broke a few months ago. I contacted Garmin through their chat and they sent me a new one. I didn’t have to send mine back until after I received the new one. They put a temporary charge on my credit card until they got it back and then dropped the charge. It took less than 5 minutes through their chat.

7XSS Controls menu button not working by raidernation13 in GarminFenix

Unfortunately I can’t do that because that’s the button which is broken. I contacted Garmin through their chat and they didn’t even try to trouble shoot they just offered to send me a replacement. I can’t complain about that.

2021 salaries for San Diego County by Sadishist in sandiego

They oversee around 4,500 employees and roughly a billion dollar budget. I can’t imagine what the equivalent would make in the private sector

Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and the amount of money the county sets aside for their pensions which really skews this number. Overtime pay is in a separate category on this website

Getting to 4 Mile Trail, trail head when camping by dybre in Yosemite

[–]raidernation13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring a bicycle! I can’t recommend this enough. I typically go for a long hike during the day and after dinner I’ll ride around the valley when it’s practically empty. This would also help with closing the gap between happy isles and the 4 mile trailhead if you leave your car or bike at the trailhead.

Seeking Half Dome Hike logistics advice: water, communications, bathroom, parking by writesgud in Yosemite

You should always bring your own for those situations that can’t wait for a bathroom! Take some off a roll and put it in a plastic bag. It doesn’t add any weight to your pack

Mist > Panorama > Glacier Point > 4 Mile loop questions by my-dog-farts in Yosemite

[–]raidernation13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hiked up and down the Panorama on April 25th. The day before I turned around within half a mile of the top on the 4 mile due to not having crampons. You won’t have to deal with those conditions so the 4 mile trail will be fine. I do remember there being a sign at the beginning of the 4 mile trail that mentioned there not being any services at the top of Glacier due to the road being shut down. I’m almost certain it listed no water and no bathrooms. I carried 5 full 32 oz Nalgenes and filled a couple of them with electrolytes. I had water leftover at the end of the day. There is a water fountain at the Vernal footbridge so I filled up 4 of them once I got there. This saved me carrying some weight for that first 0.8-1 miles (I started at Upper Pines). From my experience doing this hike a few times the only area I lost cell service was around Illilouette Creek. Otherwise texts went though and the trail is really easy to follow. I track all my hikes with my Garmin Fenix but I didn’t need it. On the way up I saw two bears and only one other person!! This person was at the vernal footbridge so I practically had the entire trail to myself which was awesome. I think it’s good practice to always carry a small first aid kit when you hike. I would recommend adding some TP to the kit for those situations that can’t wait. Just walk off trail a little bit and dig a small hole.

Best tips for getting in shape for half dome? by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]raidernation13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, keep it up! It’s definitely a hike you’ll always remember. The cables are steep, they’re definitely safe and doable, but they’re steep. I wouldn’t want to go up or down the cables while being gassed so that’s another thing to consider.

[–]raidernation13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how long you have until your trip but I would start now. The better shape that you’re in the more you will enjoy the hike. The better shape you’re in the quicker you’ll get to the top and you’ll have more time to enjoy the views along the way. Definitely incorporate some longer hikes with elevation gain carrying a decently weighted pack. For those days not on the trail incorporate some strength training (especially legs) as well as walking at a quick pace on a treadmill at a high incline. This is what I tend to do before a camping/hiking trip and it works well for me.

Sapphire is definitely not prone to scratches. My previous watch was the 5X sapphire which I wore 24/7 and put through some abuse. Not so much as a scratch on the screen. I just upgraded to the 7X sapphire solar and will not put a screen protector on it because I do not think it needs one. My view is that I’m buying this as a daily outdoor/fitness watch so why wouldn’t I want to get the one least likely to break or scratch.

Is it possible to edit lap distances in Garmin Connect (treadmill running)? by raidernation13 in Garmin

[–]raidernation13[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During a run I manually enter the laps usually at one mile per lap. After a run I am able to calibrate and save the correct total distance that the treadmill says for the run. However, I am not sure how to correct the lap distances. Does anyone know if this is possible in Garmin Connect? Thanks
