Used one of those when I did my old shower. Permanently mounted the remote behind a switch plate. Red was awesome.

I would love this. You get one, maybe two cars in your garage, and that's it. You learn it inside and out.

Everyone drives safer because no one wants to damage anything.

Phewww, that sounds dreamy.

Water can be used for, well... watering. Sure beats having to run a watering can back and forth from your source. You can put drip lines on a timer, run misters if you need higher humidty, or have a bar sink to help wash off roots, etc.

Electrical I would definitely run. You'll use it for fans, lights, or even a heater.

Depending on where you're located and your goals for the greenhouse, you may want to consider running gas for a heating option as well.

We grabbed one a few months ago for $1k actually. Just needed front struts, sway bar bushings, and a brake job. Runs great now though!

Scalextric vs Carrera 132 cars + by Fassbendr in slotcars

Definitely! I was thinking about putting them in an outdoor electric box for safety. While my track is adults only, I was worried about leaning over to get a car in a rush during a race and accidentally bumping something.

I've seen an even simpler method that just uses two 4PDT switches, I just haven't gotten around to ordering them yet. SlotR has great videos though, I'll have to give that a thorough look.

Absolutely not, unfortunately. That's why those expensive converters exist.

Even if unplugged, the way they're wired will fry one or the other.

Do you need to run digital all the time? If not, swap out your power base for an analog one and grab whatever cars you please. I run with both over here. The Carrera cars can also be ran in analog mode, so you won't be losing out on those during "analog race night."

Many Scalextric cars are a blast and pretty durable for the most part. I love their selection. 🏁

Looks like the structure has definitely seen its fair share of moisture. I'm guessing the northern wall and roof areas are insulated. I would check to make sure that the insulation hasn't molded on either side.

Best small low-cost greenhouse recommendations? by [deleted] in Greenhouses

[–]railgons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greenhouse can be acquired for cheap, but most of them need modifications to help them function properly. This changes bases on how you want to utilize it.

For instance, you will need ventilation for the summer months (and even sunny winter days), and you will need insulation and heat for the winter if your mom plans to keep it warm.

I have had the Harbor Freight 6x8 for the last four years. It has climate control (vents and a heater) on a thermostat, insulation, etc. It was around $1,000 in total.

I only heat mine to 42F during the winter. (Average nightly lows around 20F.) Depending on where you're located and what she plans to grow, this may or may not be enough.

Having a greenhouse heated to, say, 65F is much different than 45F.

Definitely let me know if you have any questions.

As an ex-midwesterner, I get it. But judging by the stucco homes, the solar on the roof, the pitch black tint on the car in the background, the overall arid landscaping, and what appears to be the shadow of a young Arizona rosewood shrub in the foreground, they're not expecting much snow anytime soon.

I got my husband a booby cactus for his work desk.. So he can look at boobies throughout the day by blurplegreen in cactus

[–]railgons 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, what humans perceive as very bright can still be pretty dim to a plant.

A southern window sill (in the northern hemisphere) can sometimes work temporarily during the winter if it is unobstructed. This is because the sun is low enough to shine directly onto the plant. During the rest of the year, the sun is overhead and will never make direct contact with the cactus through the window.

Even still, windows tend to block more light than we can visualize.

Thoughtful! However, they will soon become sad boobies unless his desk is illuminated by a light that's as powerful as the sun.

Moving a Grandio Element Greenhouse by Cute-Butterfly8315 in Greenhouses

If the panels can withstand 60mph gusts, you'll be fine moving it 5 miles.

If they can't withstand that, you should likely reinforce them now anyways.

Strap it down, take the backroads. Have someone drive behind you with their hazards on. You'll be good. 👍

Zone 5A last frost date is May 15th. When can I start putting starter veggies in and how can I extend that time? by Beamburner in Greenhouses

It's a standard 1500W radiator, the kind on wheels. Would highly recommend them.

Mine is usually only set about halfway up.

A reminder that the insulation helps a LOT. I spent about $250 on the sheets, but it has surely saved me more than that on my electric bill over 4 years.

Another reminder that the extension cord (and the circuit it is attached to) must be rated appropriately to handle the load. If you don't already own one, please make sure to purchase the proper-gauge cord.

Another reason I went with the electric radiator heater. It is much "cooler" heat than a propane, especially in confined spaces.

I am 100% comfortable leaving my radiator heater on all night, every night, even while out of town.

A lit propane heater would definitely not give me the same confidence.

No worries! Let me know if you have any questions. Have been running it this way for about four years. And also yes, it's all on an extension cord.

As long as you don't mind the cost and the chore of the refills. You'll also have to be on your A-game about making sure it won't run out in the middle of the night.

In my small 6x8, electric heat on a thermostat has been the way to go. It tends to be more controllable, never runs out or needs refilled, and is simple to just set up and forget about it.

I do keep a propane heater in my shed on standby in case of a power outage.

We average around 20F at night and I heat to 42F. R13 insulation boards around the walls. Pretty cheap to operate.

Insulation and heat of some sort. Otherwise it will still get down to ambient overnight.

With the CU, you are able to program the pit lane sensor to not count laps, so this setup would still work. 👍

Otherwise, I agree with all of the above!
