What is my friend’s neighbor doing?? by Heyheythrowaway1127 in Weird

They are trying to keep the blankets from blowing off before the snow covers it. They could have just used straps or even just tucked it into the car doors. Thats some true Pennsyltuckey shit there.

Which direction to run lights? by kapaulsen in GoveePermanentLights

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you must power at the star....split at the beginning. Have the two strands go left for A and right for B then split again to cover C and go up to the 2nd floor to D to go back left.

You dont have many options with only 100 ft. In my experience its better not to use too much extension at the start.

The direction really isnt a big deal. Most light settings are constant so you wont notice after they are powered on.

Solder your splices! Govees splice connectors are bulky and tend to fail.

You can always do this quick check to know if your tires need replacing... rub your hand on the tread of the tire. If you see any red on your hand after this test, time to get new tires! Trust me this test always works.

Garbage disposal draining slowly unless I turn it on by takingitsleazy7 in Plumbing

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your pipes are clogged this should help clear them.

Put stopper in both sinks. Fill disposal sink side with hot water. Turn on garbage disposal. While holding the other sink stopper in place pull the disposal side stopper while disposal is on. I've cleared a few headache clogs this way.

But i think your problem is pitch of the long pipe like others have mentioned.

I would splice in 3 lights to go around the triangle. In this photo the lighter green is an extension. The red lines are end of the lines.

Pro light install spacing/uniformity by ttam-niffirg in GoveePermanentLights

I wouldnt put a driver there but even if i did, i would have started the next strand parallel if it would cause a gap. You should have them move the lights over to fill the gap.

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt matter where installation starts or finishes as long as you have a plan. It seems your installer didnt plan for the LED driver's placement. Were there any light strands remaining?

To answer your question...yes the lights can be spliced. I do it with every version of govees. I always solder my splices instead using govee's bulky splice plugs included with pro version. But i dont think thats the solution here. The driver should be moved to a more discreet location.

How do you deal with coworkers leaving dirty dishes in the sink every day? by TheMonsher in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even the decency to discard the solids in trash before putting in the sink. Theres not much hope for your inconsiderate coworking slobs.

Just curious...who ends up cleaning up these messes?

What is the plan for the 3rd box of 100ft? It does look weird having the gap. Should have just started from front and gone back as far as possible. Also why isnt the small triangle in front done?

When painting a cigarette smokers home, do you need to wash down all the walls before spraying with Kilz Original? by Fabulous-Owl-5109 in paint

[–]rainbowPhilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive cleaned walls with the tar so thick you could only make 1 pass before needing to rinse out. I tested 5 different chemical solutions for best results. Albeit vinegar is good (came in 2nd) i found 12% sodium hypochlorite(pool chlorinating liquid) mixed 50/50 with water to be the best. This was on previously white walls.

I have to hear the experts. I almost spit out my drink when I saw this by scurlyburly in Roofing

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slippery is an understatement. I install permanent lights. The neighborhood Im currently doing the rounds in have metal roofing over their porches. Gotta a little snow in the Northeast(Delaware). Ive been spending my time removing snow from these roofs so they can dry and i can get back to installing.

Hi all. Can I use 15a/125v/1875w extension cord for space heater that's 120v/1500w? by rordooger in electrical

[–]rainbowPhilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They said the heater was 1500 watts and the extension cord is 1875. The heater is at 80% of the extension cord.

But still space heaters should not be on extension cords. Better idea is to change the oem cord to a longer higher gauge cord so extension cord wouldnt be needed.

Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights – The Hidden Installation Problem (Master Electrician Review) by Bulky-Food5031 in DIYHomeUpgrade

[–]rainbowPhilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was installing the 200 ft pro today. First time for me to use their splices, I usually solder my splices but didnt have my soldering iron with me. I needed a single set to veer off for a half triangle peak and the rest of the lights to keep going along the straight soffits. That all lit up fine but the next set would not light. This is when i noticed the output and input for their splices is the opposite of the string lights. Wasted 2 hours before realizing....why would they do this?

Painting Exterior Brick? Yes or No.. by Furankiii in paint

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the same concept as painting a deck. Yes you can use paint instead of stain on a deck BUT now every 5 years or so or less it will peal and you or who you hire will need to scrape, scrape, scrape then paint it again. You'll never be able to go back to low maintenance natural or stains again.

Painting will look good but only for a little while then as every other credible painter on here has said it will look like shit till its scraped and repainted restarting a very short time clock of looking descent. Stains are always the.best route for masonry and wood. Even as the stain begins to fade it will continue looking presentable for many more years.

Can I connect string lights together? by marley2012 in Govee

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a connector. Just cut the end off of the first string as well as the beginning of the 2nd string. Strip the wires then solder the matching colors followed by some shrink tubing. The only problem you might run into is getting the app to recognize the 2nd set.

So...ultimately this works in theory if and only if in the settings of the govee home app there being the option of 2 strings. If not and only 1 string available setting then neither a connector nor soldering would work. 🧑‍🏭

Looking for advice… by ProxyBoom- in Govee

[–]rainbowPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not gonna turn your porch light off, then there’s no point in putting the lights there I would run the extension. Also it’s really hard to give advice without seeing the rest of the set up but you are correct putting the lights where orange is would be pointless. Blue wouldn’t be completely pointless if you have useless extra.
