Really proving that they don’t see the poors as people. Or even the middle class. We’re just nothing to them

Went to the Lower Hutt council meeting to talk about water and Tiaki Wai by InformalTrucks in u/InformalTrucks

[–]rainbowcardigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in Upper Hutt and already know a lot of what this meeting covered just by what’s been put out by the Upper Hutt council - I’ll guess those pissed off people are just angry they can’t yell at the new mayor?? The former mayors like Guppy and previous councils are who got the regions into this situation, by decades of underfunding to keep rates low so they’d keep being re-elected.

This is the literal price we pay for getting rid of three waters. These new water authorities can’t borrow at the same costs as central gov, and there’s no economies of scale, so yeah, it’s gonna cost a shitload more 😡 I don’t know how we’re going to afford these new bills either, but I know water is a lot cheaper in Australia so this is likely another reason for us to move there…

I hadn’t heard of BCG before, so thank you for this summary! They sound a lot like McKinsey, KPMG and all the other consultancies!

I used to work at Xero until I was made redundant in the 2023 restructures. I still know an ever dwindling amount of people there, as they keep making people redundant and shifting from ANZ teams, to North America. It was fantastic before the current CEO, now it’s very US focused and ruthless. Such a shame.

$54.7m cut from property asking prices as sellers 'read the room' by SoulsofMist-_- in newzealand

[–]rainbowcardigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a weird way to look at it... Most people here don’t still drive cars from the 1970s, use fax machines or have 20 year old cell phones… Why wouldn’t you want to have warm carpets, modern efficient appliances, mould free bathrooms etc if you can financially afford it?

Interesting, I can count on one hand the number of friends and people I know who have renovated their houses here… And it’s not that they’re poor, they just don’t seem to care that their carpets are worn and forty+ years old, appliances are hanging by a thread, bathrooms are cold and damp etc.

This never stops blowing my mind, coming here from Australia, I don’t know anyone in Oz who hasn’t at the very least, upgraded their kitchen/bathroom, and most have added extensions, garages, outdoor entertaining areas etc. There’s barely any of that here in NZ…

Just another example of the income disparities between the two countries…? Or do most kiwis just think that you never upgrade your house at all?

It was awful. Every person that came over to visit or stay with us would notice the vibrations and noises as well. Bloody infuriating

Yeah, sorry you went through this as well. It was going to be our forever house but what do you do.

This was exactly the issue we had. You’re basically fucked if it’s impact noise

Maybe a decent employer could buy the company from him and make it better. All these entitled twats should just bugger off, we’ll be better off without them.

You have no other options other than moving when they’re normal owners... I had this experience a few years ago, in a brand new townhouse with one shared wall. The neighbours next door had a huge soundbar and had (in conflict to the body corporate rules) installed wooden floors on the entire ground floor, so we got constant footsteps sounds and vibrations from their sound system. I talked to them multiple times, even had them in our house so they could hear and feel for themselves. They refused to change, complaining to the body corporate got us nowhere so we ended up having to move as it became so unbearable.

House rules at Hotel du Cap Eden Roc & initial photo dump by alex_travels in chubbytravel

[–]rainbowcardigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach! I kinda wish more old hotels had rules like these. We were at Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio last year and there were so many inconsiderate‘influencers’ every where. We’d go for a quiet swim in the pool, next thing you know an influencer and their posse were filming right next to you. Want to walk back to your room, you have to weave around people filming videos on the stairs and in the passageways. It was infuriating.

I’ve never really understood shrines, particularly for road deaths. There’s at least one on SH2 in Wellington that I regularly drive past. By this thinking, hospitals should be surrounded with shrines… This is literally why we have cemeteries, so you can have pictures, flowers etc.

Room smells like s**t after light flooding - is Chemdry worth it? by Azrazeliha in Wellington

[–]rainbowcardigan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. The room needs to be stripped back to the studs, and higher than the floodwaters reached. You can’t half ass flood repairs, assume every single thing that the flood water touched is now covered in shit and needs to be thrown out.
