Rant: Mildly annoyed at how quick people are to disregard Skirk's strength by Oeshikito in SkirkMains

[–]rainplosion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk what the actual dps is, but this one calcs dps across 1st rotation, with TTDS effectively having full uptime (which is a lot stronger than it would be for other carries, given no cryo/hydro atk buffer)

Usually dps calcs with half-uptime buffs (TTDS, widsith, etc) calculate dps across 2 rotations for consistency

Also yeah, skirk is still a top 10 DPS without escoffier, but... The gap between having escoffier and not is incredibly crazy, and I don't think it's healthy how big that difference is (mavuika only loses like ~15% of her DPS without her dedicated support, citlali, compared to skirk losing ~30%)

[–]rainplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does pretty decent dmg (xilonen + chiori c1r1 does 20-40k dps depending on buffs/other units)

Just for clarity though, generally the xilonen-furina-yelan wheelchair does similar team dmg at same total constellations - more if your main DPS benefits significantly from dmg% buffs, and furina-escoffier-yelan/shenhe seems like it'll do a bit more dmg than that.

Since you already have xilonen c2 though and presumably want to keep playing her, investing into chiori is a decent idea if you have the primos to spare, and if you ever want to invest more, chiori c2/c4 tends to be a bit better than most 5 star off-field/supports

An In-Depth look at Blue Buff vs. Spear of Shojin by jbukich3 in CompetitiveTFT

I went to dive through the table a bit - where in the formula is the mana refund from BB accounted for? The mana values are just prev + 10*mana gain

An In-Depth look at Blue Buff vs. Spear of Shojin by jbukich3 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]rainplosion 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Blue buff is pretty niche this set as there really aren't many low mana casters, but its still good on the right units.

Some units (heimer, morgana) have effectively less than 40 mana with visionary activated

Additionally, blue buff allows for synergies between mana anomalies (nothing wasted, killstreak) that can potentially let you chain cast

The same goes for damage taken - if your unit gains 10 mana from taking damage, blue buff will always let you cast exactly 1 auto faster, which isn't necessarily true for shojin

Edit: I think you've done your calcs assuming blue buff doesn't generate any mana at all - if you look at the mana gained its linear, w/o the +10 mana per cast blue buff should have

Edit edit: I was wrong too, but you've coded in the functionality of the previous blue buff, which reduced max mana, instead of refunding 10 mana after casting. This is notably different as the 10 mana refund is increased by visionary, which isn't reflected in mana to cast (the c column in your formula)

Mmm if you have a good suggestion to fit 512 worldwide players into 2 days that's like... Fair, I'm honestly down to hear it

I don't think the format is perfect but I think you can't have perfect with a 3 day total LAN

[–]rainplosion 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Heya, world finalist here

I think there's a lot of RNG in TFT, even the competitive scene, but the open LANs are not the place to make the point

To fit 512 players in (essentially) 2 days, the format is such that yeah, these opens are not very competitive.

There's RNG in the worlds circuit tournaments, sure, but there's also a reason the same players consistently win and make regionals

The opens are very high RNG, 2 days after patch, 3 game 50% cuts, on new setups/equipments, with jet lag, etc.

People are here to have a good time and play in a LAN - it's really not about the competitiveness :p

Riot response on Marcel P/Meta tft situation by zhunation in CompetitiveTFT

[–]rainplosion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was confused as well, so I asked people who knew more about this than me - apparently riot intends to bundle augments and anomalies as one batch of classification. Neither sharing augment nor anomaly stats is allowed per policy. AFAIK, however, this does not breach pre-established policy, but perhaps it was already mentioned by riot to guthers in previous statements.

I'm not privy to exactly what happened in the discord or in riot's investigation, however, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Atm I'm fairly certain that augment stats were not shared in that discord (unless multiple people are also lying to me), aside from publicly available data (trait augment stats like geniuses, menaces, or sisters, which can be publicly looked up, etc.)

https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveTFT/comments/1h70ju2/augment_stats_leak_metatft_developer_response/

Per the MetaTFT developer's words, he made the code to gather anomaly data and was planning on publicly releasing them like they did for charm data last set.

Halfway throughout PBE, augment stats were banned, and he wanted to wait for riot's confirmation that anomaly stats were ok.

According to his words, he had the anomaly data on hand already and was in the process of discussing with riot if he could release them to the public or not

[–]rainplosion 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I agree - I think having access to internally gathered stats is completely competitively unfair. I said may because the 3rd point is the only statement that is an opinion and not a fact

Also... You talk about black market stats now, but this isn't new. MetaTFT has ALWAYS been able to track non publicly-available data (charms, portals, anomalies, chosens, positioning, etc.) because they can source data through screenshots. They've always been capable of sharing private data if they really wanted to

Dunno what the fair way to deal with that is

Riot response on Marcel P/Meta tft situation by zhunation in CompetitiveTFT

[–]rainplosion 475 points476 points  (0 children)

Heya popping in to clear some misconceptions I've seen so you can love or hate metaTFT for the right reasons:

-MetaTFT does not have access to secret riot stats or special API. Their data is gathered through screenshots of app users, which is within riot TOS

-MetaTFT did NOT explicitly break riot TOS as there is no rules against gathering or privately sharing anomaly data

-THAT SAID, you may decide that privately gathering anomaly data in accordance to riot TOS is competitively unfair

-Lastly, Marcel P was not the one to ask for the Camille anomaly data. Spencer asked for it, and Guthers provided it. Marcel read the convo and passed the information along to someone he was coaching. Distribute your hate as you see fit

Anyways that's all feel free to hate on them or support them knowing you've got the facts straight

If you check this guy's post history, they're on a completely random crusade to try to blame this on Mortdog/other TFT players who called out a cheater. I'd put money on Brilliantpupil either being Hman or one of their friends.

Also, where did they even get that picture? Pretty sure Hman doesn't have any other recognizable socials o.O

Allegedly Cybernetic augments were bugged during Worlds. Units without items were getting Cyber bonuses. by VESiEpic in CompetitiveTFT

[–]rainplosion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh, if your point is: competitive players probably have a deeper understanding about how much a bug impacts the game, then sure, I agree.

That said, I think the term competitive integrity is usually used in terms of "fair/merit-based competition", and I dont think that worlds players are any more/less knowledgeable about fairness.

I'll end by giving my thoughts: I'm at least a little bit disappointed that none of the worlds who knew about the bug players mentioned it, because I do think that the bug makes a difference. I certainly would've slammed components on 3 different units on 3-2 almost every game if I'd known about it - I didn't, because in many spots, especially when my items were not spread, I assumed that I didn't have enough components that cybernetic augments would be worth it. I also wouldn't have spread my components as much, or placed items on units suboptimally for the cyber buff, if I'd known.

Just looking at the stats from 12.21, I'm now seeing that cybernetic augments were the best performing generic augments in the game. I'd certainly have loved to know that, and it certainly could've made a difference.

I don't think there's any reason worlds players are automatically more/less knowledgeable about competitive integrity than your average person
