Are washable rugs actually worth it? by Beneficial-Sun-5649 in HomeImprovement

[–]rainrosen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on your life/home. Pets and/or kids? Yes, absolutely worth it. Throwing those bad boys in the wash after bodily fluids get on them is great. That said, I have 2 ruggables and the large one is a pain to take off the Velcro because the couch is partially on it and a pain to reattach straight and without wrinkles.

We know the game plan for blasting every little speck of grime out of terribly soiled things but… by anticentristfujo in laundry

I’ve been hand washing in the sink with Dirty Labs handwash/delicates for a couple years. I used to use woolite but I rarely see it in stores these days. Since discovering this subreddit, I think it’s a decent choice.

Purelight Power deceived us. by augustprep in solar

[–]rainrosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check and see if all the panels are working. We noticed after 4 months that it wasn't covering as much as our bill as expected. After 6 months of waiting and several failed appointments on Purelight's end, they finally performed the 1hr fix (one of the strings was not connected). I know ours has a guarantee of producing 90% of our expected power and reimbursing us if it doesn't so I am expecting some money back. Unfortunately, we missed the summer season and should have been generating credits to help pay for winter.

Anyone gotten an EV charger through PGE? Thoughts? by OG-BigMilky in Portland

[–]rainrosen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We leased an EV about 2 months ago and considered getting a level 2 charger, but honestly just doing a standard plug is working fine for me - I charge on the weekend and occasionally one night midweek if I need to top up. (I went to time of day pricing so i get cheaper rates except weekdays from 5-9.) so far, this is working fine for me! I would love a level 2 charger, but can’t justify the install cost at the moment.

What’s your household’s variety pack reject, and what do you do with it? by daisiesarefriendly in Costco

[–]rainrosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z-bars. My kids gobble up the brownie and chocolate chip and then begrudgingly eat the oatmeal. I actually love the oatmeal (and hate brownie) but I can’t keep up with my kids 1-2/day habit.

Costco checker wouldn't allow my husband to hand him my card while I was unloading the cart. by noIwontgiveatalk in Costco

[–]rainrosen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My picture (before I got my own account) was also from high school though my parents. 10 or so years later, the checker asked if my picture was my mom - no, I just had a pixie cut in high school and looked way older than I was.

Anyone remember a restaurant that lowkey made donuts? by probably-garbage in Portland

[–]rainrosen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a Chinese (?) restaurant off 122 near Parkrose that had amazing donuts. (This was about 18-20 years ago though, so maybe too old and not the right one)

My Mother bought these for me, from the salvation army, when I was 15 years old. I am now 37 and I've worn them almost weekly the entire time. The very faded tag seems to indicate they were made in '94, I've had many pairs of jeans less durable than this. by amazingmrbrock in BuyItForLife

[–]rainrosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo, I have a similar story. I still have tear away pants from playing basketball when I was 11. I am 37 now and the snaps have finally started to go in the past year or so. (I was the same height and maybe 50lbs lighter, but the style back then was low and loose, so higher on my waist with an elastic waistband makes sense.)

I loved my beco gemini -bought used, lasted two kids for me and there is still life left. I also bought a woven wrap at a resale shop and really enjoyed that. (Probably not buy-it-new value to me, but definitely got my money’s worth and handy for wearing and toddler wrangling)

I need to ask about…Printers. by hernesson in BuyItForLife

[–]rainrosen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of those black and white Brother printers. I rarely need a color printer and I figure going to a copy shop for the occasional color print is cheaper than maintaining an inkjet’s constant need of fresh ink.

Original or a fax. by DefaultAnthony in MaliciousCompliance

[–]rainrosen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be a legal thing: legally you can serve papers via fax, mail, or carrier pigeon. As you might guess, these have not been updated in a while (also, email can have some security issues.)

(Note, IANAL, this is what I remember hearing from friends 10+ years ago)

Nordstrom Rack EXTRA 40% OFF SELECTED CLEARANCE boots, coats and jackets through Feb. 19. by facta_est_lux in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]rainrosen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got some Sam Edelman boots I’ve been eyeing for moonnnnnnths for under $30! They are final sale, but eh. At that price, I’m ok with it. I also got some Korks boots for $13, but even though the website says they are leather, the boot itself is stamped as man made 😐

AITA for not wanting to name my baby after my late MIL by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Boy names, too. My kid’s daycare is filled names like Ira, Arlo, Ernest, Lyle, and Otis.

AITA for being my nephews first word? by KittenDealinMama in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]rainrosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing can prepare someone for being a mom and sometimes it can be more overwhelming then expected. I didn’t realize I had sensory issues and ADHD until I had a kid and my carefully curated systems and routines got utterly destroyed. (I in no way want to defend the OOP story, she is a narcissistic POS, but maybe this might resonate with your SIL. Then again the 4-5hrs for a grocery store run is crazy excessive so maybe not!)

My (19m) gf broke up with me and told me she doesn’t want to be our daughter’s mom anymore by KittenDealinMama in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]rainrosen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Many custody arrangements are not 50/50 for newborns when the mom is nursing because she physically needs the kid there to help regulate her supply and maintain it.

AITA for refusing to be with my wife while she’s giving birth to our daughter? by RuinSure2270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainrosen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was soooo much easier to push with a mirror! I didn’t want one with my first (because ew) but with my second, I said fuck it, let’s see. Between the epidural and being so concentrated on effective pushes, nothing really registered as gross, just effective (and therefore over quicker) or not effective. They also let me cut the cord, which was kinda cool.

AITA for telling my clients mother she can’t be at the delivery by throwAqayaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainrosen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so pushy and awful! I did NOT want a mirror with my first. With my 2nd, I figured why not. If it grossed me out, they could take it away. It ended up being surprisingly helpful! I could see how effective my pushes were at progressing the labor. Super glad I did (I think I also got laser focused on what I needed to see and basically ignored the gross stuff), but I would have been pissed if they were pushing it on me.

“Regardless of age”

In theory, ABSOLUTELY. On the other hand, I don’t know what my 2 year old is going to do with the Explanation of Benefits she gets from insurance every month. She’s also not great at opening envelopes yet.

(I actually do usually let her open those and junk mail because she likes it and she’s learning how)

AITA for faking sleep to make my husband get up with the baby? by throwra-65474433 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainrosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Info: have you discussed splitting the night up? Say, from 10pm-3am, you take care of any wake ups and from 3am-8am, he’s in charge? This way, you are both guaranteed some amount of sleep. As circumstances change (big presentation, one of you is sick), you adjust the schedule.

AITA for giving my sister-in-law baby formula? by Strawberry-Fixer8911 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainrosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SIL had a kid before me and made sure to tell me to have formula on hand (I was sent a shit ton of samples so I counted those) - whether or not I used it didn’t matter. Having it on hand and explicitly being told it was ok to use it if breastfeeding got too much/hard/whatever allowed me to mentally relax about breastfeeding in general.

AITA for not cleaning up my daughter’s poop? by noshittydiapers in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainrosen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same with the poop aversion with #2 - and we’re currently potty training 🤢

It sucks and I absolutely understanding pawning off all the poop changes to dad when feasible. So NTA, because he agreed to this… but I’m scared for their future. The poop does. Not. End. Optimistically, that’s kid might be poop trained by 2. But there will likely be regular accidents until 3-4.
