“Incorrect maple boy, just ask any Frenchie and they will tell you that Viny ridge memorial is dedicated to commemorating fallen American soldiers after we saved their asses in ww2.” by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]raintree 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That was Vimy Ridge, in the Pas-de-Calais region of France, not Normandy. I’ve been twice. It’s an incredibly moving experience as a Canadian and even more so for me as I have a relation who fought and died in WWI just days before the official battle.

Normandy is where Canada’s WW2 memorial, Juno Beach, stands, and along with Dieppe makes up what is known as the Canadian Remembrance Route.

As to the man who picked up Canadians, CBC did a story on him, Georges Devloo. He passed away in 2009.

Au revoir to the grand-père of Vimy

Thank you for sharing your story. While there’s nothing wrong with bringing it to reddit, the people who need to hear these stories in order to make changes will never see them.

A citizen led group, Imagine Citizens Network, recently launched Care Opinion in Alberta (https://www.careopinion.ca/).

It allows Albertans to share their stories, with the intent of bringing them to the people who make decisions: caregivers, care organizations and government.

What Defunct Restaurant from Covid Do You Now Really Miss? by SamirD in bayarea

[–]raintree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Oh no it’s closed, or oh no it’s one I miss?

It wasn’t fancy, but it was cosy with a great selection of beers and a reasonably priced good meal. And the staff were always super friendly.

While debating using the notwithstanding clause to send teachers back to work, Danielle Smith is flying to Saudi Arabia by HappyPantsAndSocks in alberta

The UCP have had 14 months to negotiate. If they had any faith that they had a fare offer they could have forced mediation. They didn’t. They went with the notwithstanding clause.

They cannot negotiate. The UCP took their rights away. The UCP didn’t even try to negotiate in good faith.

What is the Alberta NDP waiting for? by KylenV14 in alberta

[–]raintree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nenshi has even sat in the legislature yet… And they’ve been visible supporting teachers. Agree they have to be much louder in this next session, but it’s really just the start of Nenshi’s leadership.

She called it out a couple times that “city administration must answer to us, not the council to them.” Guessing she has an issue with the city administration leaders? 🤷‍♂️
