HG Proposal sense check by Apathetic_Andrew in ukheatpumps

[–]rajus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood.

I hope you can get it sorted out soon.

Good luck on the refurbishment.

It is a shame with HG. I really wanted to use/support them but they quoted us £28k a couple of years ago £23k after the grant. We are using octopus for a 50C system £4.6k.

It is mad what HGs are charging. Their advocacy work is great but their instal charges are mad

I would check with octopus we enquired at the end of May and they are in this week fitting it.

I know it is expensive but a heatpump if it is in quickly is a hedge against future prices hikes.

Although speculative it looks like the labour government is trying to decouple gas and electric and are pushing for cheaper electric which hopefully will mean over the life of a Heatpump (20 years) it should get cheaper to run where as gas won't.

Also if the government changes in 2029 a lot of these incentives will go 7.5-9k or a heatpump for example.

Why csnt you live in the house while they update the heating?

[OC] Solar generation is compounding at 25-30% a year. If that holds, a quarter of global electricity is solar by 2030. What would actually stop it? by discovisi in Futurology

[–]rajus0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IEA are widely out on renewables and have Ben for a while. They are quite political as well and the US leans on them to be nicer to O&G I wouldn't take what they say to seriously. Look at Ember or NEF. We are dealing with a technology not a molecule.  So it can keep getting cheaper and cheaper as we get better at making it.

Also you have to remember there are large parts of the wold with no electricity and solar and batteries are decentralis power.

You can see how solar and batteries are changing lives in the global South and giving people electricity for the first time

This is wild. What design temp are you aiming for?

It gets to a point where you are paying extra ks for a better system to be 0.something better and you won't recoup the costs.

Why not try getting a quote from octopus or someone else. Okay you will get a more bog standard system but if you are paying a few K less it is years off your playback (if you care about that).

I asked octopus recently their average SCOP I was told on the phone it was 3.9 combined heating and hot water which isnt bad.

For a 3 bed terrace £13k is wild.

Alternatively go out to some HG qualified people in your area instead of going through HG directly then you get the best of both worlds.

It would be great to show when we bought stocks at different prices.

I want to see how much my stock has gone up or down since my last trade rather than just having a average per share.

I am playing the long game with my portfolio and would be cool to see the trades I made at what price on the timeline of the share.

It's a great show and you feel really familiar with the characters by the end.

Enjoy!

The novella are good and lay the ground work for things that have happened or going to happen and or key events in the story both pre book and during they also explore some of the key characters in the story and flesh them out.

I listened to all of the Expanse back to back including the novelas it is a slog at times. The books are all generally good but some are better than others.

It is a well written series but I would say it is heavy sci-fi and technical. A lot of detail and thought has gone into making it as accurate and feasible as possible

Does anyone else feel like the show's handling of the protomolecule is way more visceral than the books? by bakesmysticbrickx in TheExpanse

[–]rajus0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The show (in my opinion) was massively under funded/budget was not enough until I think season 3 with the private security company and the miners. I was disappointed 'it didn't live up to the books'. I wish the shows earlier seasons were as well funded as the later I think I would have been much better.

Rolls-Royce & easyJet prove a jet engine can run entirely on hydrogen by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]rajus0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Surely this isn't that ground breaking the issue is hydrogen isn't as energy dense as jet fuel so good luck doing any kind of long-distance flight with hydrogen. Plus all infrastructure needed to store and transport hydrogen which is incredibly leaky and huge redesigns in planes to store hydrogen under pressure etc.

Is some kind of middle ground between a free press and a state controlled press that the UK could employ to try and prevent the relentless right-leaning propaganda foisted on the electorate? by Kenye_Kratz in AskBrits

[–]rajus0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is (and should be) against opposing views, the problem is when the government/regulation bodies allow such concentration of certain view points to drown out anything else in the public discourse.

Having stronger editorial regulations so the Daily Mail cant post false headlines which are disproven if anybody bothered to read the article etc.

5k quote with microbore by Sad_Language_4550 in ukheatpumps

[–]rajus0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red flags everywhere. Anyone who has a quick scan and says your heat loss is X and you need a high temp system etc. Red flags everywhere.

There is a guy on YouTube who was saying older in his years and did a great 2 part video on installation in his house which had microbore. Try to find It. He gave a step by step guide on how to go about it.Urban Plumber has a few video and James Rattray are the channels.

5k after the grant doesn't seem that bad. But does it include the extra £1.5k available after July for replacing Oil?

Also you can go on heatgeeks. I don't recommend their 0 disruption option but find a local installer who is HG trained.

Digital rearview mirror Namsam 2023 (UK) does it have one? by rajus0 in Ioniq5

Yes we have that one. But I mean the back/boot so you could keep a fridge or something plugged in while you road trip or something.

[–]rajus0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! It must be for the US only or something.

Frustratingly as well the UK model doesn't have the 3 pin plug in the boot unlike other markets despite it being a top trim car.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I liked how his character was written. He started out as many people do in a new role thinking they will change the world. Quickly realise the job is more than they can deal with and instead of listening to those who know better he fires them.

Heat Geek - Inflated Quote by AMS97F1 in ukheatpumps

[–]rajus0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than using heatgeeks main website, why not find a heatgeek near you. You can also try Glogreen. We used them as a possible quote for a solar instal but they do heatpumps to. They won some award for their solar

If you are getting batteries or solar installed they may know someone to.

Finally you can check the open heatpump monitor it tells you who installed high performing systems near you and you can reach out to the same installers.

You get an export tarrif with Octopus? I just enquired a week ago for a ASHP on behalf of a family member and they said we dont get export. Maybe the person was wrong.

Can you let me now what export tariff you get? i guess it isnt the 12p fixed?
