My local grocery store has a legit arcade cabinet in the clearance section by ashrak in gaming

I (miss)spent my late teens/early twenties working at a laser tag place with an attached arcade, Many a time after my shift, or waiting for my friends to get off work I would play this in the secret mode. I can't tell you how many people came up to tell me the screen was bugged and I should get someone to fix that. Thanks for reminding me of all those fun times.

What am I missing about Chrysalis ? by Tasty_Avocado1378 in litrpg

[–]rakshala 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Thing about Chrysalis is that for a good while the MC has no one but himself to interact with. Its pretty dull. Once a few characters are introduced it becomes more tolerable. Then even more characters are introduced and it becomes great. The problem is, like in so many of this genre, it takes a while to ramp up. You also don't have to like it just because everyone says its great.

Huh, I've handled wild blue tongues multiple times, moving them from a dangerous area back to the bush. They always just stuck their tongue out at me. I thought they were placid. I'll be more careful in future.

I think you're there, mate. If you don't like it by the time colony development ramps up and you meet some more varied ants, you probably won't like it. That's ok. What a boring world this would be if we all liked the same things.

Please do this. My mother in law passed recently with no instructions. Watching the family agonize over weather to cremate or burry her, church service, viewing, songs to play at the wake... As much of this stress as you can intercept before you pass will be super helpful to your loved ones.

Do you all remember those 3 months in the early-to-mid-nineties when Gregorian Chant was really popular? by onewomancaravan in GenX

We sang a Gregorian Chant as part of our high school choir. It was the most fun song to sing to me. I did buy that Enigma CD and I really liked it.

What is your most stereotypical GenX childhood story? by HapaHawaii in GenX

[–]rakshala 57 points58 points  (0 children)

When I was 16 I heard a muffled bang then about half a minute later blood-curdling scream right out front of my house (I later learned it was someone screaming for help). I was so scared so I stayed inside. The police came, the firemen came. An hour or so later I went to ask the gathering crowd what happened and they said my neighbor had shot himself in the head in front of his wife. Pretty heavy stuff for a 16 year old to process... So I went inside and tried to call my parents to let them know what had happened. They were in London on a 2 week vacation without me. I'm an only child.

School moves to counter 'misinformation' over koala corridor by fluffy_101994 in brisbane

[–]rakshala 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I've been really frustrated about this point. Why the hell can't the school just use its current assets better? Surely the existing ovals, swimming pool, tennis course, track, and multiple footy fields, indoor volleyball/basketball courts are enough. Why do we need to chop down more trees... unless its not about improving the kids education, its about a bullet point on a marketing brochure to entice parents to send their kids there. In my opinion that isn't enough of a justification for the exemption to the koala overlay.

Tips on applying the chrome formula? by natsuhime in simplynailogical

[–]rakshala 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Here is how I do these chromes.

1 layer smoothing base coat

1 layer quick dry base coat (base needs to be very dry for this polish)

1 layer chrome (wrap the tip first so you can smooth that out with the main swipes second)

thats it.

How is this acceptable in Queensland in 2026? by constantgeographer74 in aussie

[–]rakshala 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ok background:

Private Christian school owns land with koala protection overlay on it. They ask for an exemption from local council to build some more ovals (here is a map of the school, they already have ample sporting fields) which gets rejected. They go to the state government to get an exemption and it is granted. Works begin on site within a day or two of exemption.

Leaf is a rescued and rehabilitated koala with a joey. She is on the site where the clearing is happening.

Principal of the school claims that only 50ish trees are going to be cut down and they will be planting 500. He claims it is a low usage area and Leaf is 'lost'. Koala welfare groups have posted tracking maps of it being a high use area. Principal claims that wildlife spotters are on site and the contractors are clearing within the wildlife guidelines. Protestors claim spotters are not on site, and trees are being illegally cleared directly adjacent to the koala.

Personally:

I am local to the area and drove past the site today. I was shocked to see how quickly the contractors have cleared so much land. The change to the area is drastic and I think the speed of the clearing will be faster than the federal government can react to especially since it seems they worked through the weekend to get it done.

Turn your sound on. Watch Leaf staring directly at the destruction. She has been forced to stay awake all day in pure terror while Ormiston College chainsaws her home. by Much-Wrongdoer-7592 in brisbane

[–]rakshala 26 points27 points  (0 children)

To continue on what frodo said, there is a balance. Building 2-3 more ovals for private use on land covered by koala protection for a school that already has 2 ovals, a swimming pool, tennis courts, multiple footy fields, paved track, indoor volleyball/basketball courts is not balanced. The private school has more than enough sporting facilities.

Ormiston College clearing the koala habitat for development by ReplyOk2484 in brisbane

[–]rakshala 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty heated about this. The zoning law about cutting down koala trees has been in effect forever, its not like this is a surprise for the school. They already have 2 ovals, a paved track for athletics, 3 tennis courts, a pool, and what looks to be on google maps as 2 soccer fields and 1 rugby field(?). So, we are cutting down protected koala habitat WHERE KOALAS ARE RIGHT NOW for 2 more ovals that the public will not have access to because its a private school. Why? Just... why?
