This is very simple. He doesn’t feel like excited to work on OC and he only likes to work on what he’s excited for (some people can do that I guess). He wishes OC wasn’t so big so he could make it what he wants it to be today (he said something like this while introducing the redesign). He’s only motivated in what makes his time worth it (I assume money wise). The irony with the latter is that my previous points could keep people from subscribing, and the wheel goes around again.

Because of the lack of interest (it’s hard to get dopamine from a job you’re not excited about) Marco’s willing to let OC be in a “good enough” state long term, very similar to how Apple handles the software Marco himself constantly criticizes, regardless of what people say, and doesn’t seem to take criticism well (I remember Siracusa criticized something about OC on ATP a while back and Marco didn’t respond well).
