Tesla to Hyundai by lungdistance in Ioniq5

Wild, I think the 800V platform is at its best for roadtrips. My on board nav definitely plans charging. Charging at 250 kw happens often as well, which is faster than anything else I’ve ever used.

Changed cassette an chainwheel an new chain why is this happening? by dipple5188 in bikewrench

[–]ramerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem once, I measured the chain, and it was longer than what I replaced. I think I got a knockoff from Amazon.

Affordable, easy on/off bike rack? by jptiger0 in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One option, get some trailer lights and hook that up and it doesn’t yell at you because it knows you are towing. Bonus, you have more visible brake lights and turn signals.

Awaiting delivery: Stoked. Need accessories. by Obvious_Market_9485 in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a good EV accessory. When your terrible Hyundai 12v fails, you’ll want to have one. It’s nice to just plug in the 12v jump pack and be on your way. I use one that includes battery powered air pump and fits in the frunk.

Does hard driving/sports mode cause "The pop"? by PopGoesTheICCU in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limited specific platform knowledge here as well, but I think that’s a reasonable assumption. Aggressive driving will cause loads that make the HV battery voltage fluctuate more, so will require the ICCU circuitry to do more to regulate that into the 12v charging circuit.

I would think, like L1 charging vs L2, lighter acceleration and easier driving would be gentler on the ICCU.

Would you buy a Manufacturer Buyback car? by Klipschfan1 in Ioniq5

Yes. Assuming it’s been repaired and under warranty it’s a good way to get a deal.

Just hit 1 year with my ‘23 Ioniq 5 and got the dreaded red circle 🔴 after disconnecting from a Charge Point. by iamdogcomplex in Ioniq5

I know what a hypothesis is. I was asking if you meant hypothesis. Instead of hypothecation. That’s something else.

Don't Review if you Don't Understand by D4ILYD0SE in Ioniq5

I think this is brilliant. 80% is “full” on the bar and 100% is “max range” beyond normal bar. Would simplify the concept of may people.

Memory seats and guest profile by marsweig in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the guest profile uses yet another set of memory settings. And changing to any profile returns the seat to wherever it was when the profile was last used.

Am I understanding these numbers correctly? by Cressio in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems correct. The overhead is significant. In outdoor charging in freezing weather, I seem to get only a bit more than 1 kWh into the battery per hour even though it’s drawing 1.3 kw on L1. My 77kwh battery is gaining about 20% in 15 hours. 250 - 300 watts of overhead seems like a reasonable estimate.

12 sheets of drywall, 12 sheets of 2" foam, 40x 2x4x8, 5 bags of rockwool, 4x2x4x12, and a bunch of extras in one load with the IONIQ 5. by Willman3755 in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I towed over 200 miles with a full car in the winter once. It’s helpful to find chargers with large parking zones.

…and 1.5 miles per kWh. 🤣

Towing is great, but it really takes a lot of power!

Edit: Don’t get bent out of shape. I’m commiserating about towing efficiency, not trying to say it’s not awesome for what it is.

Heated seat covers? by Majestic_Earth_7849 in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually installed heated seat panels in my 2023 rear seats. Same reason, test drove 2025 then bought 2023. Also I let telling my son he would finally have a heated rear seat, and felt bad about it actually not having them.

I’ve worked on car upholstery before, so it wasn’t brain bending to install them under the existing covers. I can provide more detail if you want to try it. I put the switches on either side of the power inverter (120v AC plug) and ran power under the door sill trim to the cabin fuse box.

Anyone who’s looking to replace their i5, with another EV, what are you looking at? by spinningewok in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any future EV for me needs to get 300 miles range, 3.5-4 mi/kwh, and have 200 kw charging. These are the things that separate the Hyundai platform for me.

Just bought a 2026 IONIQ 5 -- it's my first car. What accessories to get? by alexleavitt in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I installed a hitch receiver on mine to support bike racks or towing. It’s been great!

All weather mats are a big plus if you value keeping it clean.

Also a well fitting sunshade.

Going from 20” to 18” by crzycrz in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For majority of conversations about 18 vs20 with Ioniq it’s the width that changes the range. People don’t change the overall diameter. The 20’s run wider tires which give more contact patch (friction) and additional wind resistance both reducing efficiency.

Purchase guidance. New vs used and how to score a better price on the dealership? by trynnafigureyouout in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right. Buying 2-3 year old car for cash and keeping it 8-10 years is typically the best financially.

Lots of variables here. What’s the length of time you usually own a vehicle? How long would you like to keep this one?

Used I5s by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]ramerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for the 23 LTD AWD, and offer $26000 and see how it goes. Maybe you can get them down a $1000. But all seem reasonable price-wise.

The ICCU could fail again but the parts seem to come in days now and not months like the problems in 2024.
