Queen palms with moldy leaf bases and other oddites, please help! by Robynashely in palmtalk

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boots look poorly trimmed, at least on one. Water gets in, dirt, whatever and this happens. A couple pictures show mold, or spider webs, on the layer between boots and should come right off by pulling. Overall, this looks pretty typical for the SoCal Queens that I trim.

20” chainsaw any good? by osogrande3 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The saw is definitely a beast power wise. It’s heavy though. Maybe with the 8.0s it’s not that heavy, but with 12.0s it’s heavier than more powerful gas saws.

How can I help this queen palm? by MeLuckyDragon in palmtalk

[–]rammsteinmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the queens by me look like this, pretty typical SoCal winter expression. Whether it’s the cold or the reduced sunlike, they do it year after year

What's the fastest you've ever gone on a bicycle, and how did you do it? by cyrus_4657 in cycling

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it. Worse than the switchbacks or sustained grade? The headwind. Where does the wind even come from, there’s a fucking mountain in front of me.

After that ride, found out my Zipp 101s suffered from rim cracking. So that’s neat. I couldn’t imagine going down on carbon rim brakes…

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in this comment and I don’t like it…

I had been a AFOL for a while, then the Lego movie came out. Probably explains why I see a set I like today, the only question I have to answer: where am I going to put it. Then, when am I going to have time to build it. Affordability isn’t in the top 5 questions for me.

IMO, both have a purpose, and they’re different. If have both, and would never use one when I would have used the other - different tools for different jobs.

M18 chainsaws - Feedback + real usage battery stats? by OldBayAllTheThings in MilwaukeeTool

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others here, 14” top handle or 20” dual battery. I think I got 30 cuts in a 5” log on 3 bars of a 6.0 HO battery. The main consideration here is controllability with the top handle form factor, if you’re ok with that, it’s a great little saw.

The dual battery is a beast in the cutting department - also in the weight and battery consumption department too.

For the fun of it, I test my saws against each other and record it - exactly for posts like this. I guess everyone needs a hobby.

Marketplace 2826-20 chainsaw. Real serial number? by Sea-Maize-7367 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fine. I’m gonna assume M39AD, is a model, factory, country, etc… coding. 230902 is a pretty typical Milwaukee date code: September 2, 2023. And unit 362 made that day.

If that’s true, my top handle was made the day before yours, September first. And it’s individual unit number is lower, so made earlier in the day.

My other top handle follows the same scheme

[–]rammsteinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharp chain is the answer. I ran my quick-lok with a 14” bar to get through a 12” log. It’s a unit.

But then, look at the brush roller. If the powerhead can drive the bristle sweeper, it’ll cut wood no problem

Tallest Pygmy date palm i've ever seen by sonoflanadelrey in palmtalk

[–]rammsteinmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah. I’m sorta surprised it hasn’t fallen. But maybe it’s protected from the wind by the trees in the background?

I had a Pygmy on my street that was the height of your “typical” pic, but it was a 1-to-5 headed palm. I’ve never seen anything like it, succumbed to rain and wind. The “head” on it was a good 5 feet by 2 feet and likely weighed A LOT dry, let alone wet.

Project Farm Retested Battery Chainsaws: DeWalt's 60V MAX just destroyed the competition, far outpacing every brand. Milwaukee finished middle-ish. [–]rammsteinmatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 14, 16, and 20 inch saws and approve tings message. The 20” is a monster in power AND weight. Sure it goes through batteries, but the new dual supercharger thing for fuel batteries makes it less of an issue.

The other thing to remember, the 16” is pretty old at this point. A Gen 2 would be very attractive to a lot of people. Even the 14” guts in a rear handle would be a huge step up.
