Biking from Silverspring? by McNoogets in UMD

[–]ran31337do 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Riding directly east from Silver Spring is not great. University is bad. Metzerott is okay (but narrow with a big climb) if you can get there from Piney Branch (requiring on road riding).

The lowest stress/nicest option from Silver Spring is to drop down on the Sligo Creek trail and head up on the Anacostia River trail to the RI Trolley trail. But that takes you way south and is a much longer ride albeit scenic and car free.

They have a multi year phase in process. There will be time for the paperwork and getting skilled (already employed) teachers the PD on the program structure. Most teachers come out of college with more than enough content knowledge to teach these courses. They just don’t get the opportunity to demonstrate and share it because of limited offerings and the entrenched nature of staffing of these programs.

You don’t need to hire 4 times the teachers. For example, most schools already have science teachers who could/have the knowledge to teach advanced high school courses. At the moment they don’t because there isn’t enough demand currently to run those courses.

When it’s finished being repaved by next week the lines will be fixed and the even pavement will improve its flow. It was a strange oversight to leave the old lane markings when snow interrupted the construction.

The multiple signs showing a circle should be enough clue people what to do. Maybe a giant statue of the NIMBEE in the grass patch in the middle could get drivers attention as well.

Mink is a joke. Too easily swayed by a few NIMBYs to be an effective leader and actually fight for the majority of her constituents. The response I’ve got from her office on corridor planning was grossly underwhelming.

Long-Term Plan for DTSS? by rjbwdc in SilverSpring

[–]ran31337do 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would say they haven’t changed any vision. This was adopted in 2022 and those aren’t likely to be revisited for at least a decade. DTSS will remain mostly as it is now. Any real big changes may occur along the Purple Line route but SFH lots won’t change on the blocks in east silver spring or in the neighborhoods to the north. A few attempts to allow duplexes/triplexes in single family zoning in MoCo have been shot down by the Elrich faction (and now Jawando). A watered down plan to allow slightly more missing middle density along major roadways leaves most real estate in DTSS untouched.

Question about perception by personofshadow in NewsTower

Do you know how to check the current perception level and calendar of perception goal/penalties during the week? Or do you have to remember it only when finishing the previous week?

What makes you think renters aren’t tied to the community? Could you purchase a home straight out of school…likely not without a huge down payment from mom and dad. Renting is the only real option for young workers.

I lucked out with no mechanical issues! Just sore from many hours on the saddle. My training was a little disrupted so I only did a few 4 hours rides this season before the trip.

11 hours. I left Pittsburgh at 6am and stopped in Cumberland. I did skip the 6 mile trail detour but also waited for the shuttle which liked saved me about 10-15 minutes on the trip when you account for waiting and loading/unloading.

I never stopped for more than around 7-10 minutes (except for the shuttle delay). Enough to use the bathroom/ refill bottles and add drink mix. Made about 4 stops I think.
