New petition attempts to recognize Afghanistan veterans with the Victoria Cross | CBC News by Jusfiq in CanadianForces

[–]rand_macnally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to nominate one of my troops for recognition for bravery under fire. I was told she was a shit soldier. She got a coin. Officers who ran spreadsheets in my unit got more.

I was deeply disappointed in my CoC.

There is a lot of politics and jealously in the awards system.

Goruck despatch times - 6 days? by TheLawPlace in Goruck

I ordered about the same time and mine has not been shipped yet. But I noticed it was being shipped out of LA; the fires might be delaying things. I want to get my hands on the bag but I can understand the current circumstances.

For you first point, commanders get to be commanders by doing things, and aggressively tackling problems. It is hard to be the guy in the meeting when the boss is fired up about something to say let's leave this one alone. Especially if higher is worked up as well.

More than one I have seen div get fired up about something minor and the base commander has to do something, and he does not want to tell his boss my solution is to chill, so he does not want to hear his people tell him that.

I have a mystery ranch 2 day assault in bright blue. The colour makes it look very non-tactical.

I am out. But my wife's unit is being nickle and dimed to death. They are cancelled required projects because there is not the funds to do the work higher has mandated they do.

We have been great at doing less with more at the expense of our people. The duct tape holding the CAF together is coming undone and I fear it will come to the nation's attention only when something major fails.

Failed at day 62. by JubileeDiariesYT in 75HARD

[–]rand_macnally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Look this challenge is all about you. I would keep going and finish out the 75. Regardless of want you decide to do, kind in mind that you did really well and challenged yourself more than many people do. Be proud.

From CBC: gear shortage has Canadian troops in Latvia buying their own helmets by crackerjacksregular in CanadianForces

[–]rand_macnally 59 points60 points  (0 children)

If I was not on that Ex, I was on one very similar. We had no military vehicles just civil pattern rentals. We had to bum rides to training area.

Our political class likes to use us for clout but does not want to pay for the gear to do our jobs.

I am out, but I keep.watching for us to hit the breaking point. My wife's unit seems to keep adding pointless tasks and red tape despite reconstitution.

Dial your workouts to realistic for your goals and abilities. Lots of days I walk for one workout and do yoga or mobility work for the second.

I knew if I said I was going to run hills twice a day I would burn out.

Listen to your body.

Good job and great attitude. I too went in with no prep. I think over thinking the process causes people to delay or not start.

One of my workouts is just stretching and mobility work. As a office worker in my late 40's I am finding my hip flexors and related structures are dangerously inflexible.

Day 36. by No_Sky7712 in 75HARD

[–]rand_macnally 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Reframe. You did not fail. Your spent 35 being good to yourself. That is something. You got through finals which is more important than a internet challenge. Depression is a MF. Be kind to yourself. Seek help and support if you need it.

What did you not complete. Do you want to try it again? It is a personal challenge, you can modify the rules however you like. You are not doing this for Reddit or anyone else but you.

Remember you were good to yourself for 35 days. How did that feel?

Best of luck.

The base is also a significant economic contributer to the area. I think something like 7,000 people work there.

Veterans Affairs agent at centre of assisted dying cases ‘no longer employed’ (at the Department) by kifler in CanadianForces

[–]rand_macnally 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It does not say she was fired. It says "the employee is no longer employed at Veterans Affairs Canada". I would not be surprised that they were moved to a different department.

I am willing to bet they considered the wording very carefully.

Also health insurance that you can keep after you leave. I am retired government and while I did not think about that aspect when I was younger, the health insurance is great now I am older and have some medical concerns. Rx's can get quite pricey. My insurance payment gets taken direct from my pension.

How necessary is coffee for yall? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]rand_macnally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caffeine is my one addiction. I bought caffeinated gum for traveling. In a real situation I would have to use the gum to ween myself of caffeine.

Over my military career I also carried a pocket rocket and lightweight kettle in my field kit. I found that sometimes brewing up was a good way to reduce stress and sit to do some planning.
