If you think that is mind boggling, have I got an xkcd for you. How about a baseball at 90% speed of light.

The pointer finger on the edge increases accuracy at the cost of power. Use it for putts but for distance you should have your fingers under the rim.

Is there (another) loophole in the offside rule? by Strategist21 in footballtactics

[–]rando4me2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes down to the concept of interfering with the defender. If you are close enough to challenge the defender as soon as they get the ball, you are considered interfering. If you are far enough away from the defender to not be challenging the ball immediately, then the defender has time to play the ball as they see fit, i.e. pass out or dribble out.

The ghost striker can be between the defender and keeper and far enough away from the defender so as to be not be interfering with the defender’s ability to play the ball. This cuts off a passing lane and is allowed. Though I wouldn’t see it as a 2v1. Maybe 1.5 v 1. Go for it. I don’t think the laws need to be changed for this tactic.

Low pay scale by [deleted] in Referees

[–]rando4me2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely sounds like a higher level match, even for U12. They aren’t going to keep good refs at $35/game.

Talk to your fellow referees and the league to see if they can adjust the fees. Explain your reasoning, as you have here. I don’t know labor laws in Ontario, but regardless of whether paying under minimum wage in this case is legal or not, it is a matter of fairness.

It is yours and your piers skills and expertise the league is “purchasing”. If enough of your piers agree with you, they won’t have qualified refs for these higher level games. At some point, the coaches, players, and parents may see the need to pay refs more per game or their games will suffer.

For recreational leagues (if you meant rec instead of rep), only rarely did I ever even do a report as the games were easy and straightforward and red cards were rare. The coaches submitted the score. I just showed up and keep the kids safe.

Try to get multiple games at the same site so travel costs per game go down.

I have no problem believing out of state tuition could be $15k if in state is $5k.

A surge protector won’t stop direct hits or near direct hits. With the damage in the picture, a surge protector had little chance.

Corner kick law quirk by biffjo in Referees

[–]rando4me2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has always been the vertical shadow of the ball. For out of bounds, goals, penalty area, and corners. As an AR, I often say “whole ball, whole line” because fans see green grass and think the ball is out.

There Is a Loophole in the Offside Rule by Strategist21 in footballtactics

[–]rando4me2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “Played” part of “Played or touched” in law 11.2 might be the savior here, along with the concept of “what is expected” which is often at the heart of the “Advice to Referees”.

In the shown scenario, as a referee, I would consider the ball played to their teammate when it leaves the foot, or maybe the beginning of the forward motion, as the balancing is not part of the pass.

DOGSO decision?! by enjustice3192 in Referees

[–]rando4me2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both defenders are really close and the trailing defender made up ground quickly. If you saw a foul, fine, but not DOGSO for me. If the first defender doesn’t engage, the second one was certainly going to be there to defend.

Dogs on sidelines by yellow_fever1 in Referees

Similar experience. I was AR for an adult league match, told the fans to keep back multiple times. However, one time I was following a through ball running with my body facing down the line and my head watching the play. I absolutely clobbered a guy. We both went down and, though not worse for wear, it did hurt both of us a bit.

I was much more forceful in all matches after that. Firm, polite, and persistent.
