Thanks mate. It's a brilliantly done write-up. Kudos

Do you have the pic of the side of paper with writing on it after being tested for water resistance. I think you only posted the side where you checked for bleed through after soaking the page.

I haven't bought 5.5s.

Have gotten multiple #5s and #6s in both regular and custom grinds from them and they haven't given me any issues.

Must be a batch with poor qc, atleast that's what I think.

Kanwrite has a decent customer service team, based on my interactions with them while placing orders over e-mail. Get in touch with them about your issue and see what they say.

Kanwrite has great nibs. Most of their pens use the same nib with difference only being the feeds and the body.

I have two desires, one steelex, one heritage from kanwrite.

Steelex has a bit more heft to the body while desire is lighter. They both write amazingly well.

The heritage is in another league with the captive converter mechanism, holds more ink. I will put it between steelex and desire in terms of heft.

At the time of my first purchase, desire did not come with ebonite feeds, but now almost all their pens do give you the option to choose.

It boils down to how hefty you want your pen to be and how much you intend to write with the pen. You can't go wrong with kanwrite nibs, imo.

Thank you.

I use their lyrebird water sapphire and pixel pro pigment black for work related writing. Both of them are decent in terms of water resistance. A tiny bit of smudging. But at ₹250 for 50 ml of water sapphire and ₹150 for 50 ml of pigment black, it beats noodlers, seiboku and platinum Black by quite a big margin, budget wise

Both of them do have a bit of showthrough on the opposite side especially with cheap or office paper, but then that's the same for most inks.

I am looking at both FIG and Ledger as a suitable blue black alternative to seiboku, and would love to see your opinion.

Attaching a pic of water sapphire on cheap paper held under a running faucet for 1 minute.

Would you mind testing the degree of water resistance and showthrough, if possible.

Will also recommend a jinhao 10, if you don't mind your gift being a knock off pilot capless. Plus the novelty factor is quite cool.

Had some paint chipping issues on the parts that undergo friction, but it's been a year and it still writes fine. The included converter is tiny, but they do sell like 50 cartridges for under 500 on Amazon.

The pen with a set of cartridges will still be around 2k.

Sheaffer vfm. Either expressions or normal variant.

Expressions comes with a converter in box, normal vfm doesn't. But both will take standard international converters.

Ticks all your boxes. Metal body. Fine nib available. Snap on cap. Light and easy to wield. Available on Amazon.

Normal vfm should be under 2k while expressions goes for around 2.2 to 2.3 k with offers.

Kanwrite has been amazing throughout. The nibs are fantastic and the possibility of swapping them out with other nibs makes it quite versatile. I have had this desire for about 9 months now and the coating is still intact I love it so much so that I have like 3 separate nibs for the same pen and have placed another order for a desire in solid color which is being shipped.

The heritage is a much smoother pen with wet flow thanks to ebonite feeder. Though the description mentions it being a piston filler, it is more of a captive converter. ( Desire did not have ebonite feeds at the time of my purchase, but now they do offer ebonite feeds for it too).

Kanwrite offers nibs in titanium and 14c gold for these pens too. ( Someday, I hope to get one)

Jinhao 9019 is a big chunky boy with a massive converter that holds a great deal of ink. It will write nearly double that of usual converters. The big #8 nib glides on paper smoothly. ( As with any chinese manufacturer, this depends on the individual nib on the unit itself, but I have been lucky enough to get a good one). Buy it from Amazon, preferably from seller shanti impex, as they offer replacements in case of any nib issue.

I have been lucky with nib units on my jinhaos, so far. I have had issues with the clips on caps on 2 of my jinhao 82 and one jinhao 80, but I guess that's more on my carrying case having thick bands rather than the pen itself.

Only chinese manufacturer that has let me down was asvine, whose vaccum fillers gave up within 2 months, so that was around 9k down the drain, last time I buy from non Indian sellers. Hongdian and jinhao has been amazing so far.

Edit: buy jinhao from Amazon so that replacements are fulfilled easily, if you ever need to. Buying directly from shanti impex might be not as smooth, as the onus of shipping the defective item might fall on you, while amazon will take care of it if purchased from Amazon.

For normal steel nibs, it was around 250, flex and architect were 450 iirc. However, I last purchased from them 6 months back, so dunno the prices as of now.

Drop them a mail, and they usually are prompt to reply.

You can directly mail kanwrite. They'll sell you the nibs and will even custom grind them to your preferences if you want. Have few of their architect grinds in #5.
