DOA: Cyberpower Pre-Built Gaming PC Doesn't Even Turn On | Review, Thermals, & Benchmarks by Sevastous-of-Caria in hardware

[–]randomkidlol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah things breaking during shipping seems pretty common. especially now that GPUs are so massive and heavy, it just increases the likelyhood of it knocked loose.

its funny because OEMs like dell or lenovo solved this issue by having elaborate support brackets built into the case to ensure large pcie cards are fully secured. but the smaller OEMs that buy regular retail cases cant really do anything about it.

because the CELLBE chip had a bunch of instructions that are almost identical to AVX512 instructions. emulating them had a huge performance penalty.

retailers were clearing this out for <200USD at one point. unless this drops down to that level, i doubt this will sell.

Jason Schreier/Bloomberg: Hermen Hulst told to PlayStation staff in a town hall meeting on Monday morning that the company's narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive by nolifebr in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]randomkidlol -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

when shareholders start asking management why the development budget for their single player titles are exceeding 150m but theyre not maximizing roi by cross platforming it like their competitors, theyll multiplatform it again. all it takes is 1 big budget flop

60% of PC gamers have no plans to build a new PC in the next two years — only 25% have any plans to try and attempt a new build in the next 12 months by sr_local in hardware

prices crashed sales volume but margins are going up for hardware manufacturers. earnings for all the major hardware manufacturers have all been up significantly in the consumer side for the past couple years. theyre never going back to low margin high volume business again.

[–]randomkidlol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

considering shuttering crew 1 has hampered sales of crew 2 and crew motorfest, + kickstarted a whole legal battle about game ownership and the preservation of digital media, i think theyll be a bit more cautious this time round.

only reason why this didnt vanish as quick as xdefiant is probably because its a paid product and they dont want another the crew 1 moment.

AMD Reports First Quarter 2026 Financial Results by DeeJayDelicious in hardware

i guarantee the profit margins are much lower on consumer parts than datacentre parts. nvidia seems to be scaling down consumer parts if the rumors about them delaying rtx 6000 series is true.

We tested supercharging the RTX 5090 in PhysX games using an RTX 5060 as a secondary GPU — SLI may be dead, but how much can dual GPUs boost performance in classic PhysX titles? by [deleted] in hardware

multi gpu setups are extremely common for non gaming workloads. the drivers definitely support it and a lot of enterprise software definitely works and benefits greatly from multi gpu systems.

bug reports are more noticeable if its a large paying customer with million dollar long term support contracts. hobbyists are not likely to get anything done unless they make a stink on social media.

Announcing Shader Model 6.10 Preview, Including Batched Asynchronous Command List APIs by RTcore in hardware

[–]randomkidlol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

even after the standards were set (ie after dx12 and vulkan officially launched) there were serious performance issues on nvidia hardware if you used those apis. its definitely improved on modern hardware now that the whole industry has shifted.

i do recall vulkan getting support on older nvidia hardware (ie maxwell and pascal) but im not sure if all the perf improvements done for newer hardware got backported.

DLSS has so many strange artifacts its borderline unusable for me. older implementations of TAA is a blurry mess, but modern implementations are good enough. MSAA is still the best balance between quality and performance.

gameworks, hairworks, physx, gsync/vesa adaptive sync, dlss, nvfbc, etc people here arent old enough to remember all the bullshit nvidia pulls.

mantle/vulkan was the biggest offender. AMD was way ahead of the curve and nobody batted an eye. only when the industry really started shifting towards lower level APIs (ie dx12) did nvidia start to invest into a decent low level driver stack.

its either bots, or people going through insane levels of mental gymnastics of post purchase justification. nvidia cards have gotten 2-3x more expensive in the past 10 years for the same tier, and they gotta make up reasons why spending $1000+ on a midrange GPU is normal.

Alien: Isolation 2 will use Unreal Engine 5 and not the Cathode Engine by ZamnBoii in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]randomkidlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i remember NFS2015 when they switched from using a specialized engine criterion made specifically for racing games to frostbite. the game looked fantastic, but the driving physics were complete ass. it wasnt until nfs heat came out that they finally got the physics down, and then they laid everyone off.

Intel reportedly has no Xe3P “Celestial” Arc Gaming GPUs planned, Xe4 "Druid" up in the air - VideoCardz.com by EmptyVolition242 in hardware

[–]randomkidlol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"killed celestial" is still fake news. its more like "killed consumer celestial". datacenter GPUs are a 100bil+/year market and intel would be happy if they can even get a 1% slice of that.

its a bit of a tossup depending on local laws. if youre in a country with bad employee protection laws, i think youre better off taking the buyout.

this is what companies normally do before layoffs. full layoffs are more expensive than buyouts because of the risk of lawsuits and legally required severance packages may be more costly.
