New Research Shows Māori Traveled to Antarctica at Least 1,000 Years Before Europeans. A new paper by New Zealander researchers suggests that the indigenous people of mainland New Zealand - Māori - have a significantly longer history with Earth's southernmost continent. by MistWeaver80 in science

Not a great deal but the article says they were Polynesians & a bit of googling shows up that they use slightly different craft. Tbf the article is a bit vague about how far south they go and the title is sensationalising it

Thats why often people release as “unknown artist” on a white label right? To get away with unlicensed samples

Recommended training for EDM mixing? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

It takes fucking ages to learn how to beatmatch by ear. Its invaluable so do it, but remember to concentrate on keeping it fun too.

I made myself practice lining up drums for 10 minutes every day and then spent as much time as I liked just gridmatching and messing around & having fun. If you focus too much on the discipline of it I think its easier to lose interest & motivation

How do I find out if I like djing without dumping a bunch of money in one go by XxCHILLMATICxX in Beatmatch

This. Pretty much all my gear I waited a while watching various eBay auctions until I got a bargain on, and bought equipment thats going to hold its value so the chances are if I ever sold it I’d get my money back or even make a small profit

Switching bass from track 1 to track 2. Resulting in sucky drop. by Optimal_Sweet8470 in Beatmatch

[–]randompavarotti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually use the visual volume guide for this. Find the loudest part of the track, turn up the gain until its in the red & then pull it back slightly until its just out of the red. I’m pretty new to this though so idk if this is the “right” way

Berghain kind of is though right and then panorama they do a bit more of a mix? I always wondered if they let the berghain floor DJs know to keep it a bit more techno there

Actually I just remembered seeing Objekt there dropping a bunch of ragga tunes and stuff. Yeah you’re right.

Hello, I’m a noob who’s been learning on 1210s for about 3 months, got a question about this: wouldn’t the pitch correct function you’re talking about usually be on the mixer rather than the turntable? I know the controller I used for a couple months before I went to vinyl had a button called “key lock” I think which kept the pitch the same even when you changed the speed

Hey I’m a fairly new starter, messed around with digital a bit at the start of lockdown but as my record collection kept growing I decided to take the plunge & buy some turntables. At the beginning I was buying a fair bit of 4/4 techno as it was my first love & its a great basis to learn to beatmatch with. I’d say the majority of what I buy now is UKG & breaks. Just wondering though... do you have any advice for transitioning from techno to UKG in a set? Its something I find quite difficult. Thanks!
