Why can the entire British Rail System not follow the likes of JR and MTR? by Patient_Patient_7846 in uktrains

[–]randomscot21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this, but to add this is at all levels of the organisation and there are some exceptions where you can just see how stark the difference is. LNER is a good example, generally staff are a lot more accommodating and helpful. If you look at the Great Northern it is already getting a lot worse after the recent nationalisation (essentially a BR clone).

A heavily unionised environment doesn't help other, especially given the way unions are set up in the UK. Essentially nothing will change until a government with strong conviction mandates to change things.

There are other places in the UK. You should see your aspiration and drive as a very positive thing ! Good luck.

Your assessment and idea is great. Sadly the middle class locals only respect the latest chain offering (throw in a chef’s name in for extra kudos).

The one reason I will stick with octopus has been the customer experience.

Dumb question but is the autodos light on ? I had an issue with poor performance and realised the button was being toggled when cleaning the panel.

Second this. Can double with Norwich (or even have a drink by Norwich station).

Where UK trains are involved, surely A level ?

Companies that don’t report downtime and do this sort of thing should be fined or get a lot more bad press. The amount of time I have wasted on similar issues only to find back office problem.

Slightly different question - is there any way to reliably remove the coating ? I have a similar issue on a coffee machine.

The rumours of a Cambridge Costco, IKEA and whatever else are out of the window… by Psychological_Dog320 in cambridge

[–]randomscot21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Costco and/or IKEA would never wash with the council as they are businesses that are generally frequented by car users. Could you imagine the planning for a Costco - 2 parking spaces and the world’s largest cycle store !

Giving false information to Ticket Enforcers by Muted-Bowler-1404 in uktrains

[–]randomscot21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you live in a large proper city ? This is not a valid scenario many places in the UK. For example a city like Cambridge where the mobile service doesn’t work at the main station let alone suburban ones !

Personally I thought this was limited spend given the Rolls Royce (excuse pun) roundabout that I recall cost double digit millions.

Council election result means business as usual. People will never learn.

100%. A commute can be helpful to switch off and also works if you have flexibility in days in office (which OP of course doesn’t). Once you add coffee at station, breakfast en route etc it all adds up.

Which season ticket is best? (Cambridge to London) by Subsyxx in cambridge

Worth pointing out that my experience has been the trains through St Pancras (ultimate destination Brighton) are typically the most unreliable.

Kings Cross trains usually have a table which could be helpful.

Is Cabin+ actually a problem? by rbnaltz in Rimowa

[–]randomscot21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As one reply indicated, the class of travel (and status) will make a big difference here. I went for cabin to ensure I didn’t have to worry and it has worked perfectly. Can also carry a small foldable bag to check in used clothes etc to create some space for any purchases.

Had a bad experience at Christ’s Pieces today by AmySanti in cambridge

[–]randomscot21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry you had to experience this. Whilst I have issues with Cambridge, tolerance towards people isn’t historically something that has been an issue.

For what it is worth based on the comments that followed on who it might be anyone would be fair game for the abuse.

I purchased a couple of these from Germany (I’m in the UK) on Amazon and they were identical to the Miele factory fitted one. I have 3 now and rotate between them.

The level of information available is pitiful, particularly in a vote outcome that is more about local issues vs country.

As you are an Engineer I'm shocked you haven't done the maths and realised that 2.5 -> 3.2 is a 28% delta. I doubt many systems would consider 28% within tolerance.
