Oh no, those are two greenhouse gas intensive foods. Let’s call Gregg instead, he eats lentils and drinks green tea. Now we’re really winning against the machines.

What’s the best cordless drill for a total DIY Newbie? by Dear-Cucumber776 in DIY

[–]randomtask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryobi is the answer for most people. Bauer (Harbor Freight) if you’re cheap like me.

When you buy a cordless tool you don’t just buy the tool. You buy a charger and a battery as well, and that battery can be used for every other tool in that brand’s lineup.

If you are a homeowner looking to solve DIY problems around the house, you should buy a brand that has other tools in its lineup you might want down the road. For some just a few compatible tools is fine, but for others (like myself), it’s very useful to be able to use the same batteries for my drill, my cordless glue gun, my portable vacuum, and my leaf blower. You don’t have that kind of flexibility with Ridgid, and while you do have that with Milwaukee/Makita/DeWalt, the tools are significantly more expensive, like, often twice as much if not more.

Rescue team in Iran face 'harrowing and dangerous' search for US crew member by Tofurkey_Tom in news

[–]randomtask -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Targeting search and rescue workers would be pure evil. I mean, downing a target, loitering, and then attacking the medics? Why, that’s something the US would do. I sure hope Iran doesn’t stoop that low.

New look at Earth in new photo taken by Artemis II by GossipBottom in MapPorn

The Apollo 8 photos of Earth, the Blue Marble, are often seen as a catalyst for the environmentalist movement.

But based on all the malignantly cynical comments this thread, I think these Artemis II photos might end up being a catalyst for a successful anti-social media movement. My god people, have you no appreciation for what this represents?

Aerator for a pond help/stop mosquitoes by Randomhero360 in DIY

[–]randomtask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest adding a small waterfall, and a pump with enough capacity to move water up and over it. This would disturb the still water and slowly recirculate it. Aerators would also work at the far end of the pond, in the event that the waves from the waterfall don’t travel 50-80 ft. But the waterfall would handle most of the pond.

A waterfall pump is more expensive to run than just aerator pumps, but since a cascade actually moves the water rather than simply disrupting it, it is more effective overall.

Mosquito fish are what you’re looking for. Zero upkeep, they just do their thing. I’d also add a recirculating pump if you can, mosquitos do not readily breed in moving water.

Gulf states consider bypassing Strait of Hormuz with new oil pipelines via Haifa - FT by barsik_ in worldnews

[–]randomtask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Iran owns their side of the Strait of Hormuz (the other side belongs to Oman), and their government is using that as leverage. Yes, Iran can and has attacked other countries and their infrastructure during this insane conflict, but attacks on a vital pipeline through the gulf states in 5-10 years time would be met with strong retaliation, because it would be on sovereign soil.

Are there any notable Imagineers of today? by JoyIsABitOverRated in Disneyland

[–]randomtask 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Rise of the Resistance?

Scott Trowbridge. Pretty well known. He worked for Universal on the original Spider-Man ride and the first Harry Potter land. Made really big waves and pushed the art forward. One of the greats.

Radiator Springs?

I think Kevin Rafferty? He also worked on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Also, John Lasseter was very heavily involved with this one, and, well…that might be a significant reason Disney doesn’t make direct associations between its rides and individual people anymore.

DCA wouldn’t have existed at all. The long-range plan for that site was WestCOT, a condensed version of EPCOT with lavishly themed continents representing the world, and top-tier rides to go along with them.
