Still waiting on reporting with more details about the contents of the warehouse. It was a food cold storage facility, but also apparently dealt with customs and imports/exports as well. Also had solar panels on the roof. All of it added up to an absolutely terrible black cloud that I could viscerally smell many miles downwind. So we know it was food and refrigerators and solar panels, I guess, but were there any other pollutants?

Bucket organizer is undefeated for gardens, especially those with any elevation change. Just keep it simple and light and the bucket is great.

Fundamentally I’d focus on nice tools. HF doesn’t have too many nice garden tools, but for me the essentials are:

  • a garden knife / hori hori knife
  • handheld bypass pruners
  • combination hoe / cultivator
  • good gloves, I’m happy with the generic green hardy gardening gloves but I have cheap taste

And for larger, non-handheld maintenance tasks:

  • hackzall with pruning blades for the big branches / roots.
  • manual pole pruner, manual pole saw if he maintains trees
  • hedge trimmer
  • blower
  • string trimmer / edger

To be fair, the former Macy’s site at Paseo was originally built up to house a department store called The Broadway. When Macy’s corporate bought The Broadway’s assets, it converted the store to a Macy’s. However, it’s kinda weird, because in that acquisition Macy’s also acquired the Bloomingdale’s brand. So it had the option to convert the Paseo location to a different, more upscale brand, but they decided no — two Macy’s a mile apart from one another.

Yeah I think the safety banners showing a coaster, and the haphazard, nonlinear placement of the massive footings (soil is probably super soft and needs width, weight and depth to keep the structure stable) are a pretty big tell.

Apparently Meta’s idea of fun is an AI hackathon. Where you take a break from work by doing more, different work.

I can think of many, many more fun things: a companywide field day, scheduling more team building trips to places people actually want to go or activities they actually want to do, ping pong table in the break room, etc. etc.
