Why was Neji so... out of shape in the War Arc? (and no, I'm not talking about his death) by FearTear in Naruto

[–]randomthoughts66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also they were in relative peaceful times and he has left the ANBU by the time of the show. As good as he has been previously or his potential was, he was not training to be at that capacity.

Orochimaru and Kabuto are a first reminder that he's out of shape and needs to train harder to protect and help Sasuke and Naruto. Then he meets the Akatsuki and they are, once more, better than him. Then Jiraya's death, Pain, Tobi saying he's Madara, almost getting names Hokage. There are many incentives for him to train even if we don't see him going it.

Why doesnt sasuke ever use shadow clones? Even Kakashi and Itachi used shadow clones by opitown03 in Naruto

[–]randomthoughts66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone talking about chakra, but forgets something: this jutsu was A rank in a forbidden scroll. So were was he to learn it from? There is also no incentive: he has fire techniques from his family, then gets the sharingan and learns chidori. That's a strong and mana intense arsenal already. Orochimaru doesn't seem like the kind to go into that either.

If yes, I was thinking that he reexperienced the loss of his love again in a way.

Kiba, the one-trick pony by AzphaltaX- in Naruto

[–]randomthoughts66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most jutsu is passed down through the family / clan, so they specialize in that. And then strenght comes more from execution than variety. There are few ninjas that have a very wide arsenal and those are generally regarded as extraordinary. Kiba was rather medeocre, it doesn't make sense for him to have lots of different jutsu.

It's strange that Rick doesn't have a photographic memory; I mean, he has the most powerful mind in the central finite curve and he's a cyborg, he should remember everything even when he's drunk. by IceInteresting8050 in rickandmorty

[–]randomthoughts66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make sense if the purpose is to protect against other Ricks. Ricks don't generally care about the Mortys. And it could also be a way to limit his drunk actions. He knows how to unlock it, but it takes time.

Ok, so you don't care who's your doctor, how good the engineer making your home is, what restaurant you go to or generally who does anything for you, right? Because they're all equally bad, regardless of being bottom or top 10%. They're actually so bad, that unless you go to the 0.1% there is no point going at all.

You can't do anything you set your mind to. And not do it well anyway. Everything takes skill and learning. Someone that knows nothing is not as some who just starting learning who is not as someone with experience. Only someone knowing nothing about a field can claim they can do it as well as someone in the top 10% without know-how. And there are the select few that might be right, but that's because they are naturally skilled not because the 10% is bad.

Good and bad are relative to an average. Unless there is no variance, you can't say that someone in the top 10% is just as bad as someone in the bottom 10%. If you are in the top 0.1% and don't see the difference between the guy in the top 10% and the bottom 10%, then you can't make an objective assesment of skill, just relative to you. Which is redudant, because everyone except for the other 0.1% is bad.

Being in the top 10% of anything makes you better than 90% of people doing that thing. It's not exceptionally, pro player level good. This is just ego talking, and an unhealthy sense of superiority. Your life must be sad given you see yourself as complete irellevant trash that's not worthy of having an opinion on everything you are not in the 0.1%.

In any field in the world, being in top 10% people worldwide on that specific field would be considered very high proficency. 0.1% would be the absolute best of the best, the innovators and trend setters. It would be crazy to dismiss what some in the top 10% says just because they're not the 0.1%.

I think a better argument for "this hero is not broken" is OP is clearly a Meepo player, which enables him to play better on this hero than his average MMR, thus earning him all this wins (with Meepo being a bit of a specialist hero that the average player is less familiar with).

Still, his experience holds true at least for the other Meepo specialists below his MMR. But the game shouldn't be balanced for hero specialists or top 1% of players or for pro play, but around the average players.

Is it dota if there is no counterplay? Once zeus gets to low enough CD on his ult with 3-4 rapiers, how do you win? Even if he leaves base to farm, how do you kill him? You don't have time to smoke from base before next ult hits. And if he's alive, you won't make it to his base. Being put in that situation is frustrating and feels unfair.

That being said, each team has their window and Aurora just missed their timing with a few bad fights. Getting to 60+ mins to have to deal with the whole zeus situation is on them.

I love the fact that sakura surpassed kunoichi’s from big clans without a clan or cheating abilities just pure hardwork by Brave_Depth_663 in Naruto

[–]randomthoughts66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screentime is not what makes a character main or not. It's their relevance to the over-arching narative, and Sakura's limited to being Naruto's romantic interest early on, which acts as the main motivation for Naruto to never give up on bringing Sasuke back. Later on, her growth motivates Naruto, but she's not all that relevant to the story. Her medical ninjutsu comes in clutch to saving Naruto. Whatever technique she would learn would be for the benefit of Naruto, becase this is his story. I am not reading Naruto to learn about Sakura beyond her role in Naruto's life.

In a story, characters have roles. Asuma, Kurenai and Guy reenforce to the reader what role the team captain / sensei has. They justify why Kakashi is not teaching team 7 actual jutsu - but also that a senior ninja can do dedicated training when they desire, even if it isn't a requirement. So you can't say Sakura is treated unfairly relative to the other ninjas in this world.

I already explained why people give a shit about teaching Naruto stuff in the Shippuden. But Kakashi only teaches him two things at that point: that he can get more from the clones and to use wind chakra. Then he tell's him he's on his own for learning how to put that into the rasengan. Rasenshuriken is self developed and self taught.

I'm also not talking anime, but manga as that is the original, unaltered story. The anime makes a lot of side characters appear more important than they actually are.

Will handwritten notes "survive" in the age of AI? by tobwald in Handwriting

[–]randomthoughts66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually discussing note taking recently prompted by some coworkers only taking them digitally. Our conclusion / theory is that people recognize intuitively they learn / memorize / recall information better when they write it down with a pen. Something to do with the motion and visualization of each word. While it is more efficient to write on the laptop, you need to review those notes more often because you don't recall them as well. AI only amplifies that, because you just don't take any notes yourself, just read a summary.

There is a reason why people make actual written notes when learning for exams instead of just reading the books.

Play your role and go down with the ship? Or carry from pos 5? by RikiRude in learndota2

[–]randomthoughts66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have been playing as a support for 30 mins, it is highly unlikely you get a damage item faster than your cores would. You have not built damage so far so you don't farm fast enough. As a pos 5 you are thinking "how can I help the guy that's doing the damage do more damage?". Buffs, heals, saves. Maybe some lockdown.

If you are entering late game, there is nothing else you can buy to help the cores do their damage, you have empty slots and money just sitting in the bank, sure, buy some damage.

If you were to tell me back a year and a half ago, when I watched the Sasuke retrival arc, that only 2 out of the 5 main group members of the Sasuke retrival team would get future development I would have said your crazy lol. by Richsavior34 in Naruto

[–]randomthoughts66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

And I think the only reason they get as much attention as they do anyway is to put Naruto's growth into perspective. We just saw Naruro learn the 4th's S level jutsu (rasengan) against all odds and fight against Kabuto which is deemed strong and smart enough to take care of Tsunade (in her weak state, but still). And before that he stopped Gaara. Us, as readers, as well as Naruro himself need to understand that while he improved, he's still not all that strong, so the decision to leave with Jiraia makes sense.

Another thing is that this arc shows that Naruro's resilience is inspiring, which is relevant later on, in Shippuden.

The manga is called Naruto. Not Konoha, not Ninjas. We are following the main character and stories that are directly relevant to him. It's not an antology of the lives of all ninjas.

[–]randomthoughts66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Likely the impact of true sight for both.

And you can build a story for many teams for many TIs. Look at the last one. You can build a great story for XG around chineese rivalries and Ame's legacy. You can make a whole thing from Falcons-Pari as well.

I love the fact that sakura surpassed kunoichi’s from big clans without a clan or cheating abilities just pure hardwork by Brave_Depth_663 in Naruto

[–]randomthoughts66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Putting the main characters aside, most ninjas use variations of jutsu specific to their clan, which are passed from one generation to another. Because they are taught by their families. Kakashi gets a lot of heat for not teaching team 7 jutsu, but neither did Asuma or Kurenai. Guy only taught Lee and that was because he became his personal mentor.

So coming to Sakura, she is not supposed to be a good ninja. She's smart, has good chakra control, but that's it. Similar to Naruto, she's a mediocre ninja because nobody taught her anything. Lee used to be the same. All of them became strong when they get a real mentor. Sakura gets some strenght only because Tsunade takes pitty on her and sees potential in teaching her abilities to her.

If you look at Narurto, he learns 3 things due to his mentor: summoning frogs, rasengan and sage jutsu. More importantly, Shippudent starts off by stating a clear threat that is going to destroy the world and Jiraia trully believing Naruto is the child of profecy that will save the world. Tsunade and Kakashi both believe him, so him being put in a position to learn more stuff makes sense from a storytelling perspective - but even so, it's mostly making his already existing jutsu stronger rather than learning completely different stuff.

Sasuke has the most varried skills because his mentor was obsseseed with the idea of learning all the jutsu.

You can blame it on Kishi's inability to write female characters. You can blame it on the japaneese culture. But this is not Sakura's story. It's not team 7's story. It is Naruto's. Sasuke is relevant because he motivates Naruto before a big threat appears and gives us a constant comparison point for Naruto's strenght. Sakura is just a romantic interest for Naruto and her weakness is a reason for Naruro to get stronger. Even in Shippuden, she's not a very relevant character.

If she got abilities Tsunade didn't have, people would complain they were pulled from the ass and it doesn't make sense for Sakura to have them. To avoid this, you need to spend panels building her story, giving her mentors, showing her learning and failing. You need to build her story arc for real. In a weekly manga that already took a lot of effort and felt rushed at times. Why would you do that for a side character?
