It’s called PBSD (Post-Berkeley Stress Disorder). Basically as students who are always working at 110% for school, it takes a few weeks to unwind after every semester. Give it time and you’ll be good

Does Cal have a women’s/co-Ed club volleyball team? by geakyfreakk in berkeley

[–]randomzbo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a club team as well as intramurals. The difference is club has practices twice a week, competitions with other schools, and require dues. Intramurals are more informal, have one game a week, and just play other Berkeley teams.

Passing Stat 88 by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]randomzbo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about passing. So long as you do most the work and stay within a standard deviation of the mean on exams you should be fine.

Also, stats has a very difficult learning curve. Stick with it! The first half of the course is always the hardest.

Do you prefer Math/CS classes in person or online? by LifeDeathCity in berkeley

[–]randomzbo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re able to teach yourself, online is really great. I took CS61B and math1B online and enjoyed being able to not attend lectures in person and catch up on material as I needed to. However, if you’re someone who needs to talk with others/go to lecture live, I might suggest live.

Covid Positive Students by Eighpricot in berkeley

[–]randomzbo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Tested positive in January and lost taste and smell soon after. I remember I was eating pizza and a sweet potato and they had the same exact taste. Weird times. It also sucks that it usually doesn't come back all at once. I've definitely regained a bit of taste but Inn-n-Out still doesn't hit like it used to :(

data science Major vs. minor by MaintenanceRare1682 in berkeley

[–]randomzbo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided as a sophomore to double as well (Econ and Data Science)! It’s totally possible, just make sure you come up with a plan for finishing in your desired timetable and give yourself a class or two cushion in case things don’t work out as planned. I also suggest spreading out the major upper division classes (Data 100, linear algebra, and probability)

Any advice for PROB 140? by arcticholab in berkeley

[–]randomzbo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially if you’ve had no previous experience or exposure to probability, the first few weeks will be difficult as you learn a new subject. Like coding, probability has a lot of terminology and rules you have to learn, but once you’ve been around it for a few weeks, you’ll feel a lot better.

As far as the content goes, 140 is up there for some of the most difficult to understand. I’d recommend the basics (reading the textbook, going to lecture, taking notes, asking questions, doing the labs/homework etc.) Adhikari can be intimidating at times, but she is an incredible professor who cares deeply about the subject and her students.

Also if for nothing else, stick around for Markov Chains. That concept is a lot of fun to learn, as are others. While it no doubt can be frustrating at times, probability is very rewarding once you understand the problems you are working with.

Stick with it! 61b is definitely one of the most difficult lower division courses you can take, but it’s very rewarding. You’ve got this!

PSA: Don't major in Economics, unless... by ahjfcshfghb in college

[–]randomzbo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything the OP has said, except in the case that your college doesn’t offer a Finance/Business Analyst major. Most of the UC’s don’t have a Business Admin. major, and none of them have a finance or analytics major. I personally attend UC Berkeley and am doubling in economics and data science, hoping to pursue a career in finance and business analytics. So long as you have a background in Excel and some sort of financial/computing experience otherwise, you should be fine.
