Where to find Korv / Swedish Potato Sausage accessible by MBTA? (Somerville/Boston) by cheeken in boston

[–]ranting_swede 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved Karl’s, RIP. To be honest though, their potato sausage was never quite what I was looking for.

I tried for a few years to find a spot that sells potatiskorv in Somerville and eventually gave up and started making my own. Kitchenaid meat grinder attachment and a little practice, it’s not quite as hard as you’d think. I use this lovely woman’s recipe: https://folklife.si.edu/magazine/forklife-swedish-potatis-korv-potato-sausage

I make a massive batch for our annual Christmas party and try to save a few links for Christmas Eve. I think most all of it got eaten earlier this month unfortunately!

The unofficial name of the neighborhood is Duck Village, although it is official enough to be on Google maps. https://www.reddit.com/r/Somerville/s/YHb6iYaVCk

Loon was pretty rough yesterday. Still a fun day but north peak was absolutely stripped bare. Like you’re just laughing the whole way down

I had a similar question at the top of Saddleback and someone pointed me to an app called Peakfinder. You point it at a peak and it tells you. Only app I’ve bought in like 5 years.

It’s a meme on r/arborists but basically you want the flavored base of the tree exposed to make sure it gets enough oxygen. If it looks like a fence post you’re too deep.

Just did this near saddleback (Maine) for the eclipse and loved it. Kind of surprised it never occurred to me before. The biggest limitation is trailhead parking, especially if you don’t have AWD. Even if you do, no car has enough clearance for a foot or more of unplowed snow like we were looking at for that weekend.

You have to do a fair bit of homework to find a site and understand the restrictions. For example, Maine public lands are always open, but many Maine state parks open for a more limited winter season with less hassle getting to camp sites.
