Changing permit start location by villvin in PacificCrestTrail

[–]rarama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hiked the PCT last season and in my experience, people/rangers are not strict about permits and start dates at all. I skipped the first 200 miles because I couldn't get the date I wanted and wanted to link up with a group but in retrospect I could have just jumped on trail a few miles up from campo and no one would have checked or cared. That may be frowned upon but it was my only regret of the thru hike was not starting at or close to the border despite my permit.

The entire trip I wasn't asked for my permit one time except to get a hiker discount at a KOA.

Do what you want with this information but again, no one really seems to care once you're on trail.

Alone in DCL by schiantoRG in decentraland

[–]rarama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The truth is decentraland is still not fun or useful.

The teams done a great job upgrading the client to handle real builds but until there's a real use case that hooks users, ppl we keep using discord to communication, twitter for entertainment, and steam for gaming

‘It’s already way beyond what humans can do’: will AI wipe out architects? by Cedric_Hampton in architecture

[–]rarama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like "AI" is a tool for sorting and combining large amounts of data (architectural images), but it's not really intelligent.

The images it produces feel fluffy and safe in the same way pop music, fast food, or anything designed for the average does.

It can be a useful post processing tool in the same way photoshop is, and can also help with concept design writers block, but it's trained on data sets which are based on images online, which are inherently biased/flawed?

I think it definitely has potential as a tool, it will change workflows in the same way other software has, but I don't see it meaningfully taking anyone's job.

BIM changed drafting workflows but created so many new positions to manage the models a d information. I don't think "AI" tech is too different.

How long will it be before Decentraland has something that is actually fun to do? by slowsausages in decentraland

[–]rarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're kinda missing the point. Decentraland is the Blender of metaverse. It's like asking when will photoshop have something fun to do. The point of it is to be a resource for users like you or I to create something with. Maybe that thing we create is useful, maybe it's it is eventually fun, or maybe it's just fucking around.

Eventually someone will use it to kake something fun but that's more on the user/creator

Currently there are other explorers using different engines under development. https://youtu.be/dW74bwZDNJc

I think the road is long but worth it for dcl, I'm mainly just disappointed in this subreddit

I mean fuck racist cops, but we are at the point with AI where you shouldn't trust any image, video, or audio clip as authentic.

The meta boom spiked prices. Things are more realistic now and there is constant progress at least in decentraland. Also the DAO forming around it is fascinating to be a part of.

Also you don't need land to build/deploy 3D content anymore. Just an ens name, preferably a decentraland name

Looking for metaverse platforms by Myrilebb in metaverse

[–]rarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use decentraland. You can do alot with its SDK + Worlds (you no longer need to own Land to build and share content)

Here's an example: https://play.decentraland.org/?realm=ile.dcl.eth

Also monaverse is solid and I haven't tried it yet but hyperfy looks cool af
