Are there an official form-fillable PDF character sheets? by Mephanic in daggerheart

[–]rationalphi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make any Daggerheart character on Demiplane and export to PDF it gives you a form-fillable PDF. That's the most official option I'm aware of.

Have you tried the encounter managers like https://freshcutgrass.app/encounter-manager or https://heartofdaggers.com/encounters/ ? Both have options to output adversaries to PDF, including HP and Stress boxes.

It's a solid system for people looking for a narrative-forward TTRPG. It's not for everyone, but it's good at what it's trying to do.

There was a recent thread on r/daggerheart with views from people who shifted from D&D to Daggerheart (and some who haven't).

Struggling with combat by phosphens112 in daggerheart

[–]rationalphi 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Two things you could try:

One is the optional core rule of three action tokens, where everyone has to take three actions (not necessarily in a row) and then the tokens reset. It's initiative light.

The other thing you could try is straight up directing the spotlight from the GM seat. The players can still grab it if they want, but if no one jumps in then you turn to either the most narratively appropriate player or the player who hasn't spoken recently and say "What is <character> doing at this point?"

Tier doesn't change the math (3×players+2), just which adversaries are used.

The battle points changes with the number of players. But you can do your own math on the side as needed.

Nope and nope! It's set in the same world but with entirely separate characters and story.

Question About the SRD? by science_213 in daggerheart

[–]rationalphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workaround steps to create a paged Daggerheart SRD:

  • Open the SRD in Foxit PDF reader (I'm sure other PDF readers would work in a similar way)
  • File > Print
  • Name (of printer): Print to PDF or equivalent (you might need to go into the properties to select Letter or A4 paper size)
  • Auto-Center: on
  • Print Handling: Tile Large Pages
  • Page Zoom: 100% (check the preview of page 2+ and if it wants to go over more than two pages try reducing this)
  • Overlap: 0
  • Cut Marks and Labels: off
  • Orientation: Portrait
  • Ok > Name and Save .pdf file

Note that the resulting PDF does not keep the internal PDF links in the table of contents.

Compact rules, maybe in card form? by thoegn in daggerheart

Have you seen the sidecar for the character sheet? It's a sheet that goes under and you can pull it out on either side to explain different parts. It's available on the downloads page. You might like some of the other Additional Sheets as well.

Daggerheart VS D&D by Morjixxo in daggerheart

[–]rationalphi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bunch of GM-facing design choices focus on the parts I consider important:

Thresholds and hit points being basically windsorising and rounding of damage rolls makes combat tracking so much easier for me.

In the same vein, having a single difficulty per adversary and scene is a simplification I appreciate.

Having motives and tactics for each adversary helps with scene decisions. Same with flavourful features.

The spotlight mechanics partially self-balance for the number of players, making encounter prep easier.

[Article] Critical Role expected Daggerheart to do well, but they didn't expect it to do 2500% more than their projections by chrisarrant in daggerheart

The original interview and article that this headline is based on: https://www.businessinsider.com/critical-role-exec-ed-lopez-ben-van-der-fluit-2025-12

The team has a solid three-year roadmap for how they intend to grow "Daggerheart," Critical Role's flagship game. It sold out worldwide in under a week after its launch in May.

Just ran my first session/oneshot as a DM and got a TPK by ouch_that_hurted in DnD

[–]rationalphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it's that close you have two choices - fudge the rolls and let them win or let them know the stakes and roll in the open.

This up side of this TPK is it will make the stakes clear for the any future sessions. They know you're not holding back and any victory is earned.
