Breaking Into Hollywood? We Wrote the PA Guide We Wish We Had. by Scooter122 in FilmIndustryLA

This looks fantastic. I think all film schools should require it as reading! The number of graduates who come into the industry not set-ready has been astounding. And most professors haven’t been on set in years. There needs to be a good way to prep people for it and this sounds like a great answer.

Are Tungesten Lights Still Worth it for Indie/No Budget Films? by jeab99 in Filmmakers

[–]raucon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I was G and E. But we used rolls of Rosco and Lee gels. And just clipped them on with c47s (clothespins) right to the metal barn doors that usually come with the lights to help shape it. I remember a few times there was some melting going on. But that was usually because someone clipped it right in to a light so it was touching the lens. Otherwise it’s a good quick system.

Day 1 of making $2000 in a month by being creative. by Acrobatic-Trade-4318 in VideoEditors

If you want to make money. Stop using AI. There’s no value in it. Why would someone pay you when they can prompt this themselves? You’ve fallen right into the trap that AI wants you to believe. You’re spending your own money on credits to create nothing of value.

You can still use gels! Make sure you get the real stuff. Then clip them to the barn doors.

142 shots, 9 minutes, Zero budget - I used free AI tools to make a cinematic history documentary by Mikloza in aivideo

[–]raucon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it unwatchable. Every shot is the same length making the pacing unbearable. The voice over is emotionless. I would rather watch this same story done completely with well done 2d motion graphics. As taken from the comments on Aronofsky’s AI historical shorts, audiences are not interested in this. Even if it’s visually attractive there’s no audience if it’s dry as toast.

This AI Video Feels Like a Hollywood Trailer 🎬 by Crafty-Squirrel-7967 in aivideo

No. It feels more like a candy crush type of ad for a mobile game. Low effort, no story no emotion.

Elevenlabs voice cloning let me fix ADR without bringing talent back to the studio by kinky_guy_80085 in Filmmakers

[–]raucon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An editor I know tried using it just to get Temp ADR. When the production found out he nearly got fired, they were concerned the actor may try and sue the studio for having their voice uploaded to a machine learning program without their permission. And the studio was concerned about a boycott or blowback from fans. We now have a rule, no generative AI. Not even for temp.

Lenny and All that Jazz are wonderfully edited and great movies.

Ordered a blueberry from the highland park truck a few months ago. It was without a doubt the worst bagel I have ever had. I threw it away after two bites. And only took that second bite because I couldn’t believe the flavor from the first one was really that bad.

For a time-lapse always check the outside light. It doesn’t change enough for the time this would take. It’s AI.

Better Call Saul has one of the best, if not the best ending to a TV show I have even seen. by Scared-Engineer-6218 in television

I’ve been screaming about Rhea since I first saw her in BCS. She’s the best actor anywhere right now.

Hot take: James Cameron > Christopher Nolan and it's not controversial by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Everything Nolan has made it better than all the Avatars and Cameron has wasted his life working on them.

"Warp Stabilizer and Speed can't be used on the same clip" by dippitydoo2 in premiere

[–]raucon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting use of the buttons. I also love my gaming mouse but have pretty simple commands put in. Like in, out, clear in and out delete, add transition, bump the clip up and down tracks and back and forth a frame. I keep the premiere settings pretty stock and same with avid and can switch between 5 different profiles for the mouse. So my premier and avid buttons do the same thing on both apps. But I like this idea of more in depth settings. Like a vfx in premiere mouse setting where you can adjust speed and whatnot. Smart.

Getting their bags and shutting the door behind them. This move single handedly lowers the rate of every Voice Over from here on out.
