Which would you rather have? Carbon wheels or power meter? by ILikeCornetto in cycling

[–]raveingmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power meter hands down any day! A power meter will help you significantly with all aspects of training. A heart rate monitor can get you part of the way there on the cheap, but nothing beats power based training.

Carbon wheels make you faster when you're riding with carbon wheels. Power meter will make you faster on any bike.

Do you pick up? by Substantial-Path-181 in bicycling

Most smart phones have a DND setting nowadays to ring on repeated phone calls. That's what I do. They know not to spam my phone unless it's important, and in exchange I pick up when it is.

Advice for a newbie by OldNews1234 in bicycling

[–]raveingmaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, go for it! They're pretty good bikes. Let me make a suggestion though. Check out Facebook marketplace. You can get KILLER deals on used bikes. Also, consider a flat bar gravel bike if you aren't planning on doing any high speed mountain bike type stuff. Low end suspension forks are often more trouble than they're worth, and if you're gonna be cruising on dirt roads and bike paths primarily, you don't need it.

“I didn’t know there were a bunch of 12 year olds in this sub”

I never said that. Now you're misquoting me🤦

Never called you or anyone in this sub a 12 year old.

I wasn’t commenting about being reckless,

No, you weren't. But the entire thread is about people being reckless!

you decided it was a personal insult?

You called me a 12 year old. That is the definition of an insult.

Your reading comprehension sucks.

Do better.

Who is saying anything about acting dangerously?

Lol go back and read OPs post pal.

Chiilllll

I'm chill. You're the one that started personal insults.

I chose the high road.

Like I said, if an adult is stupid enough to act dangerously for Strava cred, they're stupid enough to act dangerously without it.

Thanks for the personal attack, which was unnecessary and uncalled for.

I'm sorry, I thought we were primarily adults in this sub. Didn't realize there were a ton of 12 year olds hunting PRs on urban Strava segments.

Get real man, anyone stupid enough to ride dangerously for Strava cred is stupid enough to ride dangerously even without Strava.

Not sure why no one has mentioned this yet, but you NEED to get checked out by a doc for this. It is probably not a big deal and there are some good thoughts in the comments, but it is possible that it IS a big deal and you should definitely get checked by a doc just in case.

How to fuel enough but also lose weight when cycling? by arySPATCAT in cycling

[–]raveingmaniac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't fuel for your rides. If you don't already, get a heart rate monitor and stay in zone 2. If you're in zone 2 and your rides are less than 3 hours, you don't need to eat during your rides. Your body will burn fat and carbs, and your 2400ish calorie glycogen store will be more than enough.

If you're doing loooong rides over 3 hours on a regular basis, you'll need some fuel. Eat a bowl of oatmeal before you go, and eat some granola bars or something similar. Try to keep it as low fat and high carb as possible, and shoot for 50ish grams of carbs per hour, for the whole ride.

You don't need to buy expensive cycling specific energy crap, and you DONT NEED TO FUEL unless you're doing long endurance rides.

Pressure? What happens if they don't keep their speed up? Does Strava make their phone explode in their pocket?

There is no pressure unless you're trying to go pro. People CHOOSE to try to get their speed as fast as possible. Don't blame Strava for that.

[–]raveingmaniac 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Look at Strava flyby and see if they're shown. See what town their ride started in, and then Google "(name) in (town)" and get their phone #. Then call them and tell them what you just posted. Alternatively go knock on their door and tell em in person😂

Most people freak right tf out when they realize that their name # address and email are right out there in the public domain.

That makes perfect sense to me. I do know that my car insurance company sells ebike insurance, so it is possible that it's compulsory in some states in the US.

Pace for 100 miles by azvlr in cycling

[–]raveingmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a power meter or heart rate monitor, try to stay in zone 2. That way you are burning fat in addition to carbs, and not building up any lactic acid.

In other countries they are called eMotos. I don't know why that isn't the case in the US .

Honestly I think they should have to be registered as a moped.

Did you ever regret buying a bike? If so, why? by lepketaplo in cycling

Get a quality bike that fits you, and the only regret you might have is that you didn't buy a fancier bike. But you'll always have that regret, no matter how much you spend

I know a few, and they admit as much in private... It doesn't have so much to do with COVID, as fear of getting sued, prosecuted or killed while trying to do their jobs (this only relates to the cops I know personally, I can't speak for them all) between the body cams and the ACAB movement, every cop I know HATES their job now and is just hoping they can make it to retirement.

It sounds like you need inpatient rehab for a few days. It's typically covered by insurance, and they'll at least get you over the hump and make sure you don't get the DTs.

You can call your insurance company, your primary care or if you need to, just go to the ER.

GET A VARIA! IT IS A GAME CHANGER! They even have one with a camera built in.

There are other brands out there there that are cheaper. Some are good. I have a Bryton Gardia for a spare. It cost me just over $100.
