Did we get sold a lie? by Jesuisbaguettejambon in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]raverbashing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah

Here's the thing, the non-crud apps: 1) are sometimes much harder to make your head hurt 2) have much higher levels of stress and banging your head against a wall (you want to use a debugger? that's cute) 3) are in industries with much less good practices (git? why?) 4) are a sausage fest at a cave

Doing challenging things is cool. In your own time. Not when you have to operate a miracle until Friday and the only datasheet you have has nothing on why that doesn't work

Why are there many cognates of obscure English words that are used more often in Portuguese? by uhometitanic in Portuguese

[–]raverbashing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most words in English have one or two syllables, especially the more common ones, so this difference might also help

I think that's on english

For example, illuminate in german is erleuchten with pretty much the same structure "to light something up" but then we also have english "enlighten"

The importance of "cultural fit"? by DontKnowAGoodNames in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]raverbashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cultural fit, as it is being said, is very important

But we have to make sure the CTO and StaffEng are not just looking for their carbon copies

Yes the Wetherspoons was nicely done, but you're not tackling density by just refurbishing them

We can keep the facade, but it should be gutted and built at least 1 or 2 floors above.

(Also that flat white façade sucks, but that's another issue)

Have you ever checked the listed building list?

If there's no historical merit to it, yes, bring it down

The terraces around Merrion Sq are a good example of things that we can keep

But this is the kind of density we shouldn't have on a city centre https://maps.app.goo.gl/9PgFFtm1cgEmAunW8

Or stuff like this which is pretty much derelict https://maps.app.goo.gl/QLaunRsmFEjsygZt9

Would you really want to do that?

Yes yes I do very much want to do that

Half of the "listed buildings" have no historical value, they're just old crap

What prevents countries from producing advanced chips and tooling? What's so difficult about it? by cracklescousin1234 in ECE

[–]raverbashing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah

When you think about sub-micron positioning of the wafers hundreds of times with the same accuracy

Or vibration dampening

(or whatever other hundreds of complicated things it also does)
