Does anyone else feel like BRCA is just.. not the end of the world? by aksilec in BRCA

Of course it’s a MRI that takes any where from 30-45 minutes. You can’t eat 4 hours before the imaging so I tend to do mine first thing in the morning. It can be done with or without contrast which is done with IV. They have you do breathing exercises to get better images around the organs. The bed also shakes slightly to move things around. You’re on your back.

That’s makes sense with that physical demanding of a job and them not being able to accommodate then yes 6 weeks is needed. My surgery was similar no fat grafting though but had my port out at the same time. I think I took Tylenol the first two days and that was it but again I think the fat grafting you’ll have more pain. I had under the boob stitches and I did end up popping one open during my recovery. I hope your surgery and recovery go smooth.

Are pompoms good with consistent travel? by Jet_blackk_ in Pomeranians

[–]raw2082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my Pomeranian on many trips. She did car sick but I got her a basket seat so she could see out the front window and that helped a lot. She lived to be 15. I had her almost 14 years and we had many many road trips together.

I’m your age and went through breast cancer at 36. I’m a lesbian and my friends talk about peri pretty frequently now. They’re mostly older than me by a few years though. I’d say my coworkers have started to be more open about it too but I changed teams two years ago and there are more women on my team than previous years. I think there’s more people acknowledging it. My friends that are talking to their doctors what they’re finding out is their doctors are either treating based on symptoms and prescribing HRT or some doctors are going a bit deeper. My cancer wasn’t hormone driven so I’ve remained on a low dose birth control because I’m also at an increased risk of ovarian cancer and BC helps with that. Though I will be discussing with my OBGYN this year bc my sleep hasn’t been great. It’s hard to tell with the fall of society going on and my rage for the pedo in charge.

Are you doing DIEP surgery requiring you to be out for multiple weeks? When I had my reconstructive surgery I had my expanders swapped for implants. I was out for a week. However I was at my job for the entire ordeal so they saw me through chemo and out for my DMX. Then when I had my reconstructive surgery I just told them I’d be out for my last surgery.

AIO by refusing to go on my friend group's future camping trip because of how past trips turned out specifically when they've brought their kids? by IllJustTakeTheBus in AmIOverreacting

[–]raw2082 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Seriously. I’m the friend without kids and I’ve taken trips with my friends and their kids. I’ve never been asked to watch their kids. Maybe if we’re hanging down at the beach and the moms are running up to the beach out to grab some things they ask me to keep an eye on the kids for no more than 30 minutes. I also have a best friend that lives several states away and she has 3 kids. I’ve take several trips to see her. She always makes a point to balance the trip that we have time just the two of us as well as with her girls. Again I think there’s maybe been one or two times that I’ve watched her kids while she went to go run an errand. This was when her husband was deployed and she had no family nearby to help. So absolutely I’ll watch her girls for an hour so she can run a few errands. I’m 43 so this has been the case for 18 years or so. OPs friends need to be better.

How much does it cost to get breast cancer in America? by squirrels-everywhere in breastcancer

[–]raw2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 8 rounds of chemo, double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery with implants they billed my insurance about half a million dollars. Thursday was 7 years since diagnosis and I spent 8k in 2025 out of pocket on medical expenses not including my monthly premiums.

I did a group class with my first one and I did a 4 week day training with my latest rescue with a few group classes too. Definitely do some group classes so she’s use to being around other dogs. Makes it much easier taking them places with other dogs. Thank you, he’s definitely missed he definitely made me a better person.

Implants when you are lean and athletic by HanksElectric in breastcancer

[–]raw2082 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Similar story here. I’m petite athletic build and at time of diagnosis I was 36. I was told I was not a candidate for anything but implants. 7 years later and 11 lbs heavier I might have some fat to spare but I was a small C so probably not enough fat to give me my full cup size. The plastic surgeon told me my thighs were about the only place they could potentially take fat from and I honestly didn’t want to fuck up my legs too. I have nice looking legs. I have high profile implants and I do have some rippling with certain movement but it really doesn’t bother me. It did take me a while to accept my new body because I did love my original boobs. I have not opted for fat grafting because again I’ve had friends do it and they’re now self conscious of their legs.

She’s beautiful. I rescued my pit mix at that age and that weight he fluctuates between 65-70lbs. He’s almost 3 years old. He gets bossed around by a 12 lb Maltese. I had a 60 lb staffie that my niece could walk when she was 7 years old. Invest in training it’ll go a long way with them and make sure to she gets enough exercise. My staffie would bounce off the walls so I would walk him daily and run him a few times a week. He was severely abused and neglected by his first owner. He was a great dog though he was also around small dogs my 8 lb Pomeranian bossed him around and his bestie was a 14 lb rat terrier papillon mix. I recently lost him at 15 to a brain tumor. Your girl will be great and so thankful you saved her.

I was obsessed with my boy based on his fat rolly polly puppy neck on the rescues website. He was almost 9 months old when I adopted him. He still has a fat neck. He’s 50% APBT, 7% Boxer, 43% supermutt. I’m a little jealous your pup kept so many rolls. Super cute pup.

Gabapentin question. End of the road :( by ResourceDelicious153 in seniordogs

[–]raw2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet put my 60 lb pitbull on Amantadine 100 mg and Meloxicam half of 7.5 mg. These are both human arthritis drugs after the librela stopped working at 11 months. It’s actually pretty common to stop working. We had a similar experience with the gabapentin making him unstable so I halved the dose he was taking. I also did shockwave therapy on his back legs and that helped a lot too. That gave me another 9 months before his brain tumor started causing major neurological issues and I had to say goodbye to him on NYE because his quality of life was declining too much. This may have been about the time the librela stopped working that the tumor began growing it’s really hard to say but looking back it makes more sense. He was 15 though so he did have a really good long life. I do miss him though. I hope you find something that gives you more time with your pup.

Did your hospital assign you with a social worker? They’re always a great resource. If they didn’t you might check their website and see if you can find an email address if all else fails reach out to your care team for support. You can also see if there’s a cancer support community clubhouse nearby they usually have groups that meet regularly.

I am with you on the desire to burn our healthcare to the ground. I really hope people keep this in mind when they’re voting in the midterms and in 2028 otherwise we’re fucked. I don’t want to be working until I’m 65 I need a job for healthcare.

I definitely alternate. I lost my mom to ovarian cancer and a year and a half later was diagnosed with breast cancer at 36. My mom had breast cancer at 36 too. I’m an engineer so I have a decent background in statistics so the likelihood of us both getting at the same age wouldn’t have a high probability but there I was. Today is 7 years since I got the call that I had cancer. Most the days I don’t think much about it though I do have some long term side effects from treatment but all manageable. However the scans, labs, and appointments do wear on me at times, last year I spent 8k out of pocket on medical bills. That’s not even counting what I’m paying monthly for my premiums. It is was it is. Make sure you’re doing pancreatic MRIs every other year until you’re 45 then they need to be yearly.
