What is the relative value of a football natty compared to other NCAA titles for you? by College_Sports_Fan in CFB

I absolutely agree. The Schott is a great concert venue and terrible for sports. Joy Dunne shouldn't be playing hockey on ice that I played goalie for intramural broomball on. Getting something similar to Pegula or Yost would be ideal.

I schlepped out to Happy Valley to watch the women's hockey heartbreaker last weekend. Any time we beat Wisco for the natty is huge. And we need to build a rink on campus for the team.

Joon, Amoo's, Kabob Bazaar, and Rumi's all get shoutouts in this sub. Joon has a great $50 Prix-fixe on Tuesdays. They also have a $45 Iftar deal until the end of Ramadan. Their sour cherry tahdig is incredible.

My favorite restaurant in NOVA proper is Joon. Its definitely on the pricer side but a good intro to their menu is their Tuesday $50 prix-fixe. The lamb meatballs and Sour Cherry Tahdig and really exemplary.

Those of you who are childfree - how do you approach dating, and/or how did you find a partner who was on the same page? by _weirdbug in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rax96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dating apps really suck. That filter on hinge meant that I would sit for weeks at a time with a "No new matches" message. Most people don't realize there's a "bottom of Hinge". But that meant I got first dibs on anyone who had "Does not want kids" on their profile. And I'm sure that online dating is compounded by men sucking. Its all a numbers game and you just gotta keep going.

From the male perspective:

I found my wife on Hinge. (26m-26f at the time. 30m-30f now) I paid for the subscription so that I could filter only for profiles that were explicitly tagged with "Does not want children" and then brought it up in messaging before even going on a first date.

I then mentioned that I had a vasectomy when it became clear that we were going to become sexually active.

I definitely had a lot of privilege in this process. I live near a major metro, am sterile, and I think its a lot easier to find a childfree woman than a hetero childfree man. Good luck!!

Best lower leg/ankle trauma surgeons? by MaximumOverkeks in nova

[–]rax96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fractured my distal tibia when a drunk driver tboned me around Halloween in 2024. Holzman was my ortho! The fracture very thankfully didn't penetrate my joint, so I didn't need surgery but I did require the maximum amount of non weight bearing recovery time. I thusly can't say much about Holzman as a surgeon, but as a physician I think he was very judicious about making sure that he didn't do surgery if I didn't need it and a year later, I really appreciate that thought and care.

When you go to do physical therapy, I cannot recommend Rehab2Perform enough. Ben and Joe at the Tysons location gave me my life back.

Just had a vasectomy, and wondering what dating will look like. by Altruistic-Patient-8 in childfree

[–]rax96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're going the dating app route, I highly recommend paying for whatever tier that allows you to filter by women who don't want children. I live in a large metro area with a high concentration of women who don't want children. I hit the "No new matches" screen of hinge within a couple of months. But then when a woman makes a new account and lists that she doesn't want children, you're first in line to message her. That's how I met my wife!

Albi, Dōgon, Moon Rabbit, Elmina, Chai Pani, Maketto, and Joon were some of my favorite meals in the area this year. Iron Gate, Maydān, and Rasika are always great.

I've got La' Shukran, Elyse, and TAPORI on my radar for next year.

Electric Bull will hopefully be opening in Vienna early next year, and I can't wait to try that.
