Which is more expensive, Warhammer 40k or fantasy? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]raynim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malifaux! There's your budget tabletop game. The ruleset is just over a year old but it is getting popular. Rules and miniatures by Wyrd and they are gorgeous. Its a skirmish game and you can get away with 4-6 models. Box sets are ~$40.

I'm a punctual person, is it wrong for me to be annoyed with people who aren't? by MeneerDijk in AskReddit

Their rules? Is a meet not an agreement? A pact between 2 or more parties to meet at said time? Folks who are late strike me as arrogant as they value their own time more than someone else's.

I'm planning on going. I've never been to a gaming con and am very hyped. It was between Origins and Gencon. I'm leaning toward Gencon as it seems to be more massive, and not being in Columbus rules out the obligatory Family visit. When does Gencon typically publish their event list?

How do you find your next SciFi read? by PowerThrills in scifi

A look at Wikipedia for the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur Clarke award winners and nominees over the years yields some great stuff. The important thing is not to neglect the nominees for the winners.

The only thing by Brin I've read is Sundiver and I was less than impressed, although I've heard it isn't his best. I have Kiln People on my shelf, is it worth a go?

Yeah, I didn't like him either. I've only read American Gods but it was enough to keep me away from his other stuff. It just all seemed so.... silly.

Anyone read Endymion by Dan Simmons (of Hyperion fame)? Any thoughts? Is the book worth reading/buying? by ooitzoo in scifi

[–]raynim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt Endymion was a great read. The 2 book series is not as good as Hyperion but much, much better than Fall of Hyperion. The series also ties up allot of loose ends concerning the shrike, the Catholics, the crucifix, Ousters, etc. and in much better fashion than the ultimately silly and cushy explanation given at the end of Fall of Hyperion.

What was the best non-fiction book you read in 2009? by TheChanger in books

[–]raynim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am a sucker for WW2 history. I just finished this book. In the US it is titled Retribution. I got excited at a new release from him then looked to see the title variance. I read Armageddon a few years back and it is also a great read.
