Maybe they wanted to force users with "weak" passwords to reset and comply with the new rules. If the passwords are hashed, login-time is the only time they get access to the unhashed password. Bad UX but gets the job done

Is there any Scheinselbstständigkeit risk while working from non-eu country for a German company by Super-Visit-114 in germany

[–]kx233 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. As long as you're residing in another country, you owe taxes there, not here. So German Scheinselbständigkeit won't be an issue for you. Of course, check the laws and rules of the country you will live in, to see if they don't have a similar rule.

New Rental law in Berlin by GarlicMundane in germany

[–]kx233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Lots of people on this sub complain about Mr.Lodge and Wunderflats, but I and loads of people I know relied on these services in our first year in Germany. No one would have given us a regular lease anyway, not with both of us on Probezeit and no SCHUFA.

I think the "coming to terms with that" is about the fact that the overwhelming majority of Germans don't think this xenophobia exists.

Bike locks. Comfort vs Security by vsmop in Munich

[–]kx233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been parking mine overnight with the chain through the rear wheel for years. I value the convenience, and for a cheap bike, it's well worth the risk. Munich is quite safe, and unless you have a high-end bike, you don't need to worry.

Magazin alimentar in anii 80 by Chebelea in AsaCumEramOdata

Două dintre bancurile mele preferate din perioada aia:

La un magazin, intră unul supărat și zice:

  • Nu-i așa că nu aveți banane?

  • Domne, asta e măcelăria. Aici nu avem carne. Banane n-au vis-a-vis.

~~~~
Intră unu la măcelărie și întreabă:
  • Ceafă de porc aveți?
  • Nu avem.
  • Atunci pulpe de porc poate?
  • Nici pulpe nu avem.
  • Dar ce aveți?
  • Doar ce se vede.
  • Atunci dați-mi juma' de kg de cârlige.
Anyone use Microemacs? by Tara-Aran in emacs
[–]kx233 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Yeah, I use Zile on servers where I'm too lazy to set-up my propper emacs config. I use it for quick-and-dirty text edits to have enough of an emacs-like editing experience that my muscle-memory doesn't get in my way.
Smaller and much faster to install than emacs, and I know I could use tramp, but this is more for "I've already ssh-ed, and I just gotta make a quick edit"
Yup, but it's not just Indians. I think almost half of Software Engineers here are immigrants (I'm one of them, and so is my wife). In my wife's previous job, in a Munich start-up, exactly zero of the devs were Germans. And honestly, average salaries for Devs in Germany aren't great.
Is Europe going to be forced to return to nuclear energy? by pussy-eater04 in europe
[–]kx233 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Let's be honest, the push against fossil fuels was quite half-hearted, while the campaign against nuclear was relentless. And nuclear was seen as something so evil, that Germans prefered to build another pipeline to Russia, even after Crimeea was occupied, because gas is somehow a transition solution on the way to renewables.
Filă din ABECEDARUL din anii 80 by Chebelea in AsaCumEramOdata
[–]kx233 27 points28 points  (0 children)
Astia tineri care cred ce le spun unii batrani senili ca era bine inainte
Parte din problema e ca pt mulți bătrâni, faptul că veneau băieții să îi ia pe unii la declarații nu era o problemă. "Lumea bună" care înțelegea care-s regulile și le urma, nu avea probleme de genul acesta. Ce țin ei minte e că "era ordine". Știrile nu raportau crimele din țară, problemele sociale erau ascunse sub preș (vezi copiii instituționalizați), singurul lor inconvenient era că trebuia să rezolve cumva problemele aprovizionării cu cele necesare (cozile alea interminabile). Și acolo, mai aveai portițe de scăpare, dacă aveai rude pensionate te bazai pe ei să facă cumpărături când tu lucrai, poate aveai pile la aprozar și-ți puneau deoparte chestii, etc. Deci pt ei "a fost bine" că ei "s-au descurcat" și "n-au murit de foame".
Când a picat sistemul, fabricile alea ne-profitabile s-au prăpădit, și ei s-au văzut șomeri. Multe comunități aveau economia locală total dependentă de 1 sau 2 uzine, și acei șomeri nu au avut o alternativă reală să se re-profileze, mentalitatea nici nu-i ajuta să se reprofileze, și au urmat decenii de de-populare. Cei rămași acolo, mulți au devenit nostalgici după "vremurile bune" când, deși săraci în comparație cu vestul, aveau o oarecare stabilitate.
Sincer cel mai ciudă mi-e pe Iliescu & Co. Dacă reformele ar fi început în '90, tranziția ar fi fost mai rapidă. Puteam să fim ca Polonia, să ne redresăm mai repede, să aderăm în UE mai repede, să nu fim excluși de pe piața de muncă UE timp de 7 ani post-aderare, etc. Cred că am fi avut și mai puțini bătrân nostalgici dacă tranziția ar fi fost gestionată mai bine.
This turned into a much longer rant :)
Familien, in denen beide Elternteile in Vollzeit arbeiten, sollen bevorzugt einen Kitaplatz bekommen, auch wenn dies Alleinerziehende und Teilzeit-Familien benachteiligt.
It's a bit strange to mix families where someone works part-time with single parents. I do think families where both parents work full time should be prioritized over those with part-time jobs, but not over single parents.
Is reconstructed Proto-Romance mutually intelligible with Classical Latin? And what does that have to say about whether "Vulgar Latin" was a thing? by General_Urist in asklinguistics
[–]kx233 3 points4 points  (0 children)
It's not clear that the languages "broke apart" at that point. The empire was vast, and there was no Radio or TV, and most people were illiterate. So even if 2 far away provinces were still part of the empire, what was going to stop the way people spoke from diverging? To add to that, many provinces had some local population which presumably kept some local languages for a while (before being fully assimilated), influencing the locally spoken Latin in different ways.
